I had seen a Youtube video that said one of these skulls was so detailed they knew gender and approximate age.

Would be awesome if they did facial reconstructed to see what she would look like

The Mitchell-Hedges skull was reconstructed to be a young woman.
www.v-j-enterprises.com...

Most of the skulls have been found to be Austrian from the late 1800's and early 20th. century.

Interesting question. Depending on who made them may determine whether the face (on the skull) is European, or not. The problem is that you can make the face look European, or American thus supporting you what you think they are.

Here's something to help dispel some of the myths of these (not so ancient) artefacts...

Unfortunately the most famous(Mitchell Hedges)crystal skull was revealed NOT to have been found where Anna Mitchell Hedges claimed:

Mitchell-Hedges claimed that she found the skull buried under a collapsed altar inside a temple in Lubaantun, in British Honduras, now Belize.
As far as can be ascertained, F.A. Mitchell-Hedges himself made no mention of the alleged discovery in any of his writings on Lubaantun.
Others present at the time of the excavation recorded neither the skull's discovery nor Anna's presence at the dig. According to new evidence presented in a National Geographic documentary, the skull was purchased at a Sothebys auction by F.A. Mitchell-Hedges in London on Oct. 15, 1943. Shortly thereafter, he discussed the purchase in a letter to his brother.

It is however, one heck of a sculpture, and no one knows where it originated.
The packard bell labs tested it and found it was made of a very rare"flawless"form of crystal, which itself is very rare.
They believed that it was possible to store data in such a material, although they didn't/couldn't retreive any data.

I read somewhere that there is a small town in Germany which has a history of making similar skulls, and it was speculated that many of the skulls came from that region, with fake stories being added later by buyers.
The facial reconstruction of the Mitchell hedges skull found that it was modelled on the skull of a European female, supporting the idea that it may have been made in Germany:

In the National Geographic Channel documentary "The Truth Behind the Crystal Skulls", forensic artist Gloria Nusse performed a forensic facial reconstruction over a replica of the skull. According to Nusse, the resulting face had female and European characteristics. As it was hypothesized that the Crystal Skull was a replica of an actual human skull, the conclusion was that it could not have been created by ancient Americans
