Malaysian minister blames naked foreign tourists for earthquake

The earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck Sabah's west coast on Friday, causing landslides on Mount Kinabalu, where at least thirteen climbers have so far been confirmed dead.
The earthquake comes a week after a group of foreigners, who included two Canadians, two Dutch and a German national, broke away from their entourage and stripped naked before taking photos at the mountain peak. Sabahans railed against the images, as they consider the mountain sacred and the act of tourists made “mountain spirits mad”.
Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah , Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said that the tourists showed disrespect to the sacred mountain and will face appropriate action according to native laws.

I have to say as much I disagree with the laws (I find it ridiculous) you still have to follow it since it's their land therefore they have the right to do what they want with them.

In the other hand this sounds like a plot from a Hollywood movie.

Nah, whats needed here is a good old fashioned witch doctor..he or she may apply the blue lizard deal..blue lizard is always a tricky thing.

Maybe the big guy shook the mountain because they got dressed and left........

Put yourself in the mountain's shoes!

It is not as if it can just walk away when faced with the possibly flabby tourist nakedness right?

I mean I feel for the mountain.

a reply to: Jonjonj You are assuming they were flabby.....could have been some lookers. They used to sacrifice virgins to volcanoes to stop eruptions...could we be on to something here?

All kidding aside they are refusing to let the tourists leave the country, it's really bizzarre.

Unless said naked foreigners be super fat and a fried chicken stand caused them to stampede, I ain't seeing the connection.....

I don't mind naked fat people. I think everybody should be naked. Being a free spirit I see the beauty in every body regardless of size or shape. I have seen some women that were by many standards heavy, but they were absolutely beautiful and so sexy. Any self respecting mountain would have seen the beauty and kept his rumblings to himself.

I'll save my sympathy for other people. What they did was stupid and ignorant. Why do they think they can act the way they did? They are not in their home countries. A little respect for the country and people you are visiting is not much to ask. I hope they learn this lesson from their experience. I doubt it though.
