Nothing will end the way you want it to, it is what it is. This is ATS, and maybe they don't like Catholics like you want them too??? Take it or leave it whatever the case! Websites can hold whatever beliefs they want right now... this is a freedom which may soon be gone...Freedom can sometimes be a bitch eh?!

I was literally about to post the very same thing!

I, for one, applaud this thread and the intent of the owners/admin to get ATS back on track and more like the ATS I was eager to join way back in 2008.

All contibutors, I suppose, but maybe not the root cause.

We humans have survived worse without becoming what we are becoming now. In fact, it could be argued that those who experience the true and real horrors and hardship tend to lean the opposite way, toward compassion and kindness and just the pure joy and gratefulness of having survived.

Seems to me that the fear some people have, both real and imagined, of what might be, traps them more than the reality does. And then that becomes the ugly, which for some reason seems to spread faster than the beauty in the world.

Interesting perspective. Very interesting. Funny, but I can't even force myself to watch a "reality' show and find myself. well, avoiding those who are mesmerized by them? The whole divisiveness thing is just getting further and further beyond my ability or even willingness to cope with, both here and in real life.

Well that depends on what you mean. You see, I do not make disparaging remarks against individual Catholics. I make statements about the entire Catholic mode of worship, which are valid points of view. If I started going around saying "Let's kill a bunch of Catholics, just for being Catholic" or "I hate Catholics" rather than making a genuine criticism of the methodology of Catholicism itself, I would expect to be bought up on the subject by the moderators.

As it is however, I have never been that sort of person. I am not a bigot, just because my opinion is unpalatable to you. The difference between bigotry and an alternative point of view on religious matters can be hard to discern, but normally the biggest difficulty tends to be that those who are indoctrinated would rather be angry at any challenge to their world view, than debate the matter rationally.

often though, it is part of the conditioning applied to keep people that way
i think the orgy porgy scene in Brave New World where the savage tries to convince the party goers that soma, and their party, is not what they think it is really expresses the idea well

I've noticed many have left ATS or they aren't posting as much as they were... i think it's due to all this 'blacking' out of what people want to say here... even if the post had nothing 'rude' or 'derogatory' in the post, it still gets deleted and I think it's blatant that ATS and other sites are trying to control our thoughts/mind/brain whatever...

It's 'Mind Control' of a different form.

Don't deny it... because you know its true.

though I don't know the true stats
i think many of us have tried to be a little more civil lately
I think encouraging less rude more content has made many of us better writers and readers
can't buy that at the store
certainly you won't get bettered like that at the average school

In fact, I would go as far as to say that the various sites in the online community that stoke hatred and venom - that's mind control, social programming, whatever. The PTB thrive on division and fear.

Throughout history, it's always been the erudite thinkers and the eloquent speakers, writers and debaters who elevate discourse that have impacted the most people, changed the most minds and who are lauded through the ages.

The "group" of people involved are not a set of persons who have a singular political standpoint in common as far as I can make out. They are however a group whose members have consistently ignored the T&C of the site, and the ethos of this community, and have attacked the T&C directly when challenged by the sounds of things.

Again, I don't Storm, & I feel your discontent with the Christian bashing tbh.

I've noticed how it's had you around lot less, pisses me off to see good members driven away by vitriol.

And starting today, we hope the opposite happens.

I know the religious discussions are ugly.

Too ugly. I hope some don't find themselves surprised when we start spending more time reading those discussions.

I appreciate this response and it is precisely what I've been waiting to see. My partner is a member and she rarely come here anymore because of the Christian bashing. As long as there is an even handed application to this, I will be satisfied.
