D.C. Metro Blocks Muhammad Cartoon Ad With Convenient 6-month Ad Moratorium

It seems that the DC Metro has blocked the need to sell space for a 'free speech' campaign that would have included the winning entry from the "Draw Mohammad" that was blamed for a shooting where two were killed a few weeks back?

It is not that they are simply saying no but they are BANNING all PSA's for 6 months. Is this not a little extreme?

It has already happened in NYC also. Folks, is this 'fear' or 'conforming' to the laws of Islam? What is next? No bacon ads on TV or print media?

Metro officials also gave another reason for the ban. They said they feared violence from Muslims. According to Washington Post reporter Paul Duggan, a “Metro official says agency fears a cartoon ad of the Prophet Muhammad would make buses and subway stations ‘terrorists targets.'” And so, with all that in mind, the authority placed a ban on all PSAs through the end of the year.

If they are afraid, then, in essence, the terrorist has won!

How many minds have these ads ever changed instead of just polarizing?

Progressive liberals cry and demand tolerance and freedom until it conflicts with agendas or something they do not believe in..........It is called floating in the wind.



This is why this mindset always fails and is not a recipe for success on any level including schools,government,home life. Progressives could care less about free speech or liberty.

DC Metro sees a potential problem with an advert that was going to run and decided to pull it. Instead of singling out one specific ad, they pulled all the PSAs to avoid legal backlash from one group. Smart business on them.

DC Metro has to worry about more than offending a group of people. If one person decides to follow the example of the guys in Garland, TX because DC Metro ran this ad, then they could be held accountable. A lot of people use that service, they have to think of all of their customers lives.

a reply to: matafuchs A PSA is not saying FU to another religion. It is actually the people who submitted the ad that put Metro officials in a bad spot. They had to pull other anti-sharia ads if they puled that one (wow, there were more?) and then they could face a lawsuit if...all PSAs weren't pulled.

As to the bus and train ads, courts in several jurisdictions have repeatedly ruled in Geller’s favor, telling mass transit authorities from coast to coast that they must allow the ads if they take any PSA or issue advocacy ads at all.

The same thing happened in Philly. They have stopped ALL PSA's which shows fear.

If we as a country are afraid that Radical US Muslims will attack then why are we not rounding them all up? There are several, including the guys in Texas, on the radar. If this was 2002 we would be and if we did it in 2000 the WTC may still be there.

We did that to the Asian Population after Pearl Harbor, history did not judge us well for that.

I get the line of thinking, but we can't arrest on thought crimes. We can shadow, we can do what we can to make sure they don't act, but just rounding up all the extremist is a big no no.

I'm all right with the cartoon contest and conference in Texas. There is a right to free speech. But, come on, do we need yet another reason to turn our subways into targets for terrorists? Buy some some space on billboards or something.

Good to see you can form generalizing statements about 320 million people. Everybody knows that the most intelligent statements are ones that include broad generalizations of hundreds of millions of people.

Still why is some political crap giving the satisfaction to Islamic extremist to feel that they are winning their battle of wills.

There are 327 million cell phones in the US. There are 317 million people. This does not include tablets. This was not a generalized statement.

When someone is robbed, do people step in? Nope, they record it. When someone is being beaten do they step in, no, they scream WorldStar and record it. When there is a riot or a car accident do people help, no THEY RECORD IT.

That was the point. The majority of people are so wrapped up in apps and bs that they could not tell you who Syria is let alone where it is. Where is the Ukraine. Who is the Sec of State? These are things people should know.

Go to work and ask 10 people some random current event questions. Bet there is 3/10 that can even put forth a sold answer.

We have allowed those who control the media and money to corral us into a life of fear of credit scores, terrorists and bad American Idol contestants.
