Imagine if the whole "nice-guy, we don't get involved with wars" image of Canada is a front, so the citizens won't expect things like this to happen.

I think our government counts on the fact that we will pay more attention to American political news coverage than our own. So that when a scandalizing headline hits, it seems trivial compared to what is happening south of our border.
Bill C-51 passed the House of Commons without much protest from citizens mostly because no one really knew what the bill was or how it could affect them. And even when some of us try to mobilize, it is met with mostly apathy from our fellow Canadians.
Canadians have become the worst possible kind of citizen... a spectator.

I know Vancouver was quite vocal about it but we're so far in the West and Central Canada hardly ever gives any f**ks about us West Coasters.
