Crashed on takeoff after they failed to turn on the pitot heat on preflight and clear water out of the system. The nose came up and the system thought it was ten degrees nose low, and fifteen knots faster than it was, so the computer pulled the nose up and they stalled and crashed on the runway.

Another aircraft had an engine fire that they didn't know how to fight, and took several months to repair enough to fly back to the Depot to repair.

The MC spent something like two months in the hospital in Hawaii. They airlifted him to Tripler, suffering spinal compression and bruising.

Yeah, watching them eject was def butt pucker time. Do you know if all crew recovered fully and went back to flying ? Fair play to them if they did, would certainly make me think twice

Yeah. The AC spent about three days in the hospital IIRC, the MC about six weeks or so. They both went back to the Squadron after.

We need as much as we can get, from our greatest ally.

Seriously, you must be asleep. The TPP is foisted on us without any body the wiser. Drugs and oil from the Mid East flow back to the USA and we provide military support without any of those "benefits". Monsanto stuffs our ecosystem up and you call the Corporate controlled US govt "our ally".

We're being shafted daily the same as most US citizens.

Do you even bother to look at political history or are you too young?

They even had the gall to overthrow our govt back in 1975. Friends do this to each other?

During the crisis, Whitlam had alleged that Country Party Leader Anthony had close links to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).[113] Subsequently, it was alleged that Kerr acted on behalf of the United States government in procuring Whitlam's dismissal. The most common allegation is that the CIA influenced Kerr's decision to dismiss Whitlam.[114] In 1966 Kerr had joined the Association for Cultural Freedom, a conservative group that was later revealed to have received CIA funding. Christopher Boyce, who was convicted for spying for the Soviet Union while an employee for a CIA contractor, claimed that the CIA wanted Whitlam removed from office because he threatened to close US military bases in Australia, including Pine Gap. Boyce said that Kerr was described by the CIA as "our man Kerr".[115] Whitlam later wrote that Kerr did not need any encouragement from the CIA.[116] However, he also said that in 1977 United States Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher made a special trip to Sydney to meet with him and told him, on behalf of US President Jimmy Carter, of his willingness to work with whatever government Australians elected, and that the US would never again interfere with Australia's democratic processes.[117]

That's what Assistant US defence secretary David Shear told a Congressional hearing today, but now the Pentagon has said they don't have plans on basing B1's and surveillance aircraft here.

China were expectedly peeved about it and we know that the goings on in the South China Sea are the reason for all this hoopla..

So was this a Fruedian slip? One hand not talking to the other?

So by your logic, you think we should tell the US to pack up there military bases and bugger off?

Who's going to pay for all those extra military expenditures to defend Australia then? Personally, I'd rather the government spends the least of our gdp on military and still have our borders protected by allowing the US there military bases.

Or maybe I'm missing something?

Some roots go deep..Im just waiting for someone to mention Macarthur

Im more of the "upsetting of China" line of reasoning. Was a vague mention of China being allowed over here to exercise at some point. The traditional baddies are Indonesia. All depends on which country our PM pisses off next.Pollies run things dont ya know.
The Global Hawk should be given more capabilities for our forces. With our expansive coastline and having a major ocean both sides of us surveillance is the best way forward.Launching off Exocet's or Harpoons to deter Illegal fishing, whaling, surveillance or other threats are way better than sending a B1 off to bomb something in the middle east.
