Spit balling

A colleague of mine asked me an interesting question today. He said you know how secret and paranoid these 'spy agencies' are but yet along came Ed Snowden and blew the whistle and got all the media attention. In it's 50 or so year history nobody has done an 'Ed Snowden' on Area 51 with so much publicity. What makes the secrecy at Groom Lake any different to that of the NSA?

I know one or two dodgy interviews have been done on various talk show radio stations and there was even a programme on tv called Area 51: I was there. But nobody it seems has done it on Ed Snowdens scale. Why?

I must admit I was flummoxed on what to say.

Wouldn't it be a lot harder to confirm that someone worked at Area 51 than for the NSA?

Wouldn't it be more of a death wish to expose what's going on?

Wouldn't it be easier to discredit an Area 51 whistleblower?

I'm willing to bet that Snowden got put on their list at one time or another during the course of his whistle blowing.

I would say that it would be much more dangerous to whistle blow on the NSA than Area 51. Anyone whistle blowing about Area 51 could easily be labeled as a kook regardless of whether they're right or wrong.

I'm willing to bet that whatever was at Area-51 means a lot to the select few who get the privilege of working there.

Let us assume that alien-type craft were housed/experimented with there at one time. The implications of such technology would so massive, that convincing someone to keep it secret wouldn't be hard.

"For the good of not only the USA, but the world" would probably be something told to the researchers, and they'd most likely believe it.

Also, have you ever met someone who's devoted their life to science? For someone like that, getting a chance to work with technology light years ahead of anything else is a secret worth keeping. If they were to spill the beans, they'd loose the opportunity to continue working/playing around with the technology. That's worth keeping to yourself, right?

No -- we'll never get any "leaks" or "insider" information out of those fellows -- they are in a private club unto themselves, and they don't want to spoil it for themselves. We the public get their eventual hand-me-down scraps in the form of touch screens and Bluetooth wireless speakers.

We have had someone come out and claim to work at area 51 (S4).

I know many people do not believe his story, but it is very interesting and he did make some pretty exciting claims about alien craft, etc.

It's pretty much guaranteed that if anyone that had real legitimate knowledge of either ET's, very advanced exotic technology or underground bases would be hunted down and silenced by all means necessary. They're not going to get away with a treasure trove of provable information. And even if they did and they fled to Russia or another state they probably wouldn't cooperate lest they blow the lid of something that could expose their own secrets.

Besides, Edward Snowden wasn't a highly placed insider, his secrets aren't secrets at all and haven't been for a long time. He brought nothing new. As of yet Snowden has only brought normalization and a chilling effect and nothing he says is really news.

The security dealing with deep black projects would be another order of magnitude greater than anything Snowden ever faced.

In the end there's enough evidence in the public sector for those with eyes to see.

It's really not hard for them when they're dealing with an indoctrinated population that will give the conventional view the benefit of the doubt every single time.

There's no winning when the whole frame of reference of a society is inherently skewed and biased. They have never experienced and therefore it doesn't exist to them, it's that easy. It's a normalcy bias and anything outside of their frame of reference will automatically be thought of as weird or crazy if it clashes with their already made up mind. In relation to these exotic topics ordinary people are very much like flatlanders ignorant of three dimensional space, like fish in the sea or a hamster confined to a cage. Anything outside of their very limited perspective is either nonexistent or crazy speculation.

Reality doesn't care though, it gets pretty damned wild and it could give two #s if someone thinks something sounds too fantastical to exist.

I watched a UFO documentary show the other day. And there was this guy on who had been involved for 15 years and he had been lifelong friends with a air force general I think it was. I forget there names. Anyhow one day this guy asked his long time friend who was a general about the UFO subject. The general's reply was to scream and shout at his friend and made him swear to never ask that again.

I'm mean come on was there really any need for that kind of response? And you hear this all the time when a senior military official is asked about this subject.

I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone who works at A51 and think who could I talk to, who would believe me anyway. It must be a very insular life.

I can't believe nobody has even flown a personal drone over A51 and taken pictures.

Flying a drone over Groom Lake is not trivial since you need to be at least ten miles away at best. It wouldn't be some off the shelf drone.

You don't need a drone to photograph Groom Lake. You either climb Tikaboo or pay for a satellite photo. Both will be done on daylight and not likely to reveal anything.

Regarding leaks, one can assume the network controls are better at Groom Lake than the NSA. Typical mil computer access requires a common access card. For all we know each project has its own air-gapped server. If you compartmentalize the projects, you would compartmentalize the computers too.

If you look at the Snowden leaks, thus far we have not been shown source code. That doesn't mean he didn't get any, but thus far is documents look more like power point. We don't know the vetting process, so perhaps source code is not being released. So it looks like Snowden didn't get everything.

Great question, the answers to which go on to further prove that Area 51 is nothing more than an aircraft R&D test site. (A totally fascinating one at that)

Snowden was compelled by some moral instinct to let the world know the extent of the spying and intrusion of privacy being conducted by western governments. Rightly or wrongly he believes that the public have the right to know.

Conversely, I believe almost everyone working on black projects out of Groom, or for that matter any of the defence contractors all over the world truly believe in their product/project and are working to make it a success to help defend the nation. The projects flown out of Groom are used primarily in the defence of the U.S. rarely are they designed to intrude on the privacy and rights of the general public.

With the Snowden release and the fact that no real evidence has ever leaked from Area 51 goes further to proving that there are no aliens, no alien spaceships and no alien crashes to cover up at Area 51. Bob Lazar = Joke...come on!

Plus, Gariac's point around compartmentalisation is bang on. The NSA systems and projects that Snowden leaked were made available to hundreds if not thousands of operatives and intelligence staff worldwide, effectively the customers of the NSA. The list of people cleared in to a black project may only number in the 10's of people who are highly involved in the project.

Sure a few people every now and then have claimed to work there, or seen things, but without proof no one will believe them. Whatever went on in there is, obviously, top secret information and there's no way they'd be able to leave with any sort of evidence. You can't blame the general public for not believing them without evidence. Some of the claims are quite literally out there. Not to mention there's a lot of hoaxes, like the recent "rosewell slides".

I sometimes try to put myself in the shoes of an A51 worker and think stuff I've seen and stuff I know (providing I'm part of the right team). How would you ever get the information out there and believable. Even as some people have suggested of getting the ash tray from a flying saucer and submitting it for public testing, can be faked.
