Quoted : "The french government is notorious for making laws and regulations that are more statements of values than actual actions."

And of course the USA Gvt are perfect?

And this : "The french like big statements as a way of making points, action is sort of secondary and not necessarily important."

Of course the US Gvt are perfect again...

Come on folks.. If you are going to have a dig at other countries at least accept and show that your country also has baddies that you folks blindly voted!

????? Are you drunk posting? WHERE did I say anything about the US government?????

I'm sure there's some sort of understandable explanation for the weird remarks here, I won't judge you- but read my post tomorrow and see if you got it mixed up with a different one or something?

I only vote in France, I do not vote in the US, and I don't consider it a "dig"- it is my opinion, based upon my observations.

There are tons of laws that are passed, but not so much enforced.
Like the veil one, which all americans went ape# about, but in reality, besides a couple examples, it is not enforced. There are women walking around my town with their face covered, nobody does anything about it. The law was made so that in case where it is important to see the face, it can be enforced legally- like when women are picking up their checks at the social security or CAF, they can be asked to show their face to prove their identity (before, there was cases in which the same woman picked up many checks, under different names, wearing a veil).

It was also a statement on values for integration of immigrants, that they recognize laicity as an important part of the culture here.

That is not necessarily a "dig"...

They apply the idea of using a bit of jugeote, enforce the law when necessary, but don't be a con and follow it to the letter when there is no need for it. I personally have come to think that is pretty wise!

You live in France, you haven't observed the same things???

Hi Blues.

Nope, no drunk posting but just a little fed up the way that some people here on this site like to really have a bash at other peoples countries without taking their blinkers off and having a good look around them first in their own country.

If you start talking about the USA as a foreigner here then you get slapped to hell and back.

I was sooo annoyed when I wrote that post that my fingers were thinking before my brain.

Yes I have observed the same things as travel around France quite alot and have learned to live with and tolerate other peoples cultures, however, in the region where we live this is not too much of a problem.

Ah, okay, I see. I can understand.
I get sick of it too.
It wasn't my intent to slam them. I've learned to appreciate a lot of their ways.

As foreigners living in another multi-cultural country we have to learn...
