The USA has experienced conflict in the past to the extent it could have collapsed. These conflicts were the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Also, I’m sure there have been serious issues the USA has experienced with our governess - weakening to the point many thought it might collapse.

Today I have the opinion our governess is on dangerous grounds. Historically there have been interest groups attempting to influence our congressional legislative process. This is not new. However, today I believe a very dangerous precedence is taking place were rich corporations as well as rich citizens and our congressional legislative branch are blurring into a new branch of legislative. Corporations spend $2.6 billion a year on reported lobbying. The biggest corporations have upwards of 100 lobbyists. Some call this “Corporate Democracy”. Our founding fathers did not setup our governess to operate in this manner. What I think I see is a very unfair advantage of influence the rich corporations and rich citizens have on our legislation. They have lobby structures that permit unchecked face to face either with congressional staff members and/or the legislators themselves. The main populace of the USA does not have this opportunity. In addition…50 percent of retiring Senators now become lobbyists, up from 3 percent a few decades ago. 42 percent of Congressmen become lobbyists.

Legislative gridlock between the Republican and Democratic parties lasted for the better part of two presidential terms. “Real Clear Politics” rollup average polls (from five polling organizations) at the end of 2014 stated the congressional approval rating was 13.8%. The Presidents average job approval rating was 44.1%. – rolled up from seven polling organizations. It remains to be determined if the gridlock will continue.

There has been much enlightenment in the past few over the fact that the government has sold out to big money and are now a permanent ruling class as will be evidenced by the new presidential election (Clinton/Bush). In a place where everything is for sale to the highest bidder, eventually those with the most cash own everything. I had the bad fortune of helping my 11 year old with her homework last Fall when she was being indoctrinated by the textbooks that defined PAC as groups of people that get together with elected scum to "advance" good things for everybody. Don't you know that I straightened that one out right quickly! Of all the doom subjects we can discuss, political doom is the most insidious and unfortunately collapse becomes inevitable, for as Ernest Borgnine once said, "You lay down with pigs, you get up smelling like garbage" (Pay Or Die).

I would challenge anyone to argue that the government was not OFFICIALLY and publically recognized as SOLD OUT when the "Supreme " Court ruled that corporations are people too and as such are entitled to the same rules. How much more in-your-face does it get? For after all, a corporation is, as Wendell Berry put it, “a corporation, essentially, is a pile of money to which a number of persons have sold their moral allegiance….It can experience no personal hope or remorse. No change of heart. It cannot humble itself. It goes about its business as if it were immortal, with the single purpose of becoming a bigger pile of money.”

In most of these wars, the U.S. was on the offense. Danios admits that some of the wars were defensive. However, Danios also leaves out covert CIA operations and other acts which could be considered war.

I was in the Vietnam War from 70 to 71. Spent 6 months in the jungle on search and destroy. Got to come home early due to wounds. All of us guys knew the war was BS.

First of all, thank you for serving your country and I am happy to see that you made it safely home. A lot of us knew it was BS including MacNamara and Taylor but it didn't stop them from killing so many for nothing. I took the oath in 1972 myself but in such fashion that it gave me four more years to train and avoid what I knew was wrong. I was fortunate. It is sad that during the entire time that we have been alive, the USA has been at war and not really ever been allowed to win even a single one. We all know the men could and still can do it, but the pathetic leadership, well there is no end to the deserving insults that we can heap upon them that they have earned. Godspeed.
