The great sport of Hurling

Hi folks,

A while since I posted. I have just watched the first game of hurling I have seen in a number of years. Its a phenominal sport that former soccer player Alan Shearer has described as " a combination of hockey and murder".

The speed and physicality involved are biblical in its intensity, and it is hard to swallow that it is predominatly amateur. It is an ancient game that has evolved through millenia to its modern format.

When i was at Junior School in England in the early 80's we played Shinty a fair bit and it was bloody brilliant.

I think it was because the equipment was pretty much free and no one cared if we hurt each other back then.



OP - But yeah, Hurling is brutal. Never played it but it's great to watch when the opportunity arises.
