That's a good bet.
Same reason obama resigned the Patriot act.
Just politicians doing what they do.

Um, actually we have a very strong left, and a very strong right, and they bicker back and forth constantly. What we don't have is a strong center. That's what we need.

I respectfully disagree.

What we have in the US is a very strong center, a virtually non-existent Left and an extremely vocal Right.

Can you name any one politician in congress today that openly labels themselves a "socialist" or "communist"? I doubt that you can.

The "Left" learned a long time ago that they was defeated by the propaganda of the Right, and if you can't beat em.....join em. So the Left moved to a bit right of center and we lost any semblance of a true, socialist, Left.

That's why I laugh when I hear the uninformed Republicans screaming about socialism and the Left. What socialism? Where?

I don't see it. Do you?

Agreed.

Not that I would support a socialist-leaning candidate but it shows how guilty the Conservatives are of fear-mongering.

The truly ridiculous thing is that we have ultra-rich candidates telling everyone how they're going to represent the "average American" against the ultra rich... and some people lap it up. Idiots.

It is sad, is it not? The entire process is nothing more than "theater" that is obviously not meant to serve the best interest of US citizens, yet people fall for it anyway.

My personal political position is a bit complex to get in to at the moment, but I would welcome a rise in the socialist movement at this point and time. Eventually we will see just that, but America is not ready for it quite yet.

It was Bush who ran with this. The changes required to make this happen, were signed in by Bush. I watched the entire system collapse not long afterwards, then is transpired that the UK banks were also tied in to the American wet-dream. Bush eventually blamed the banks, of course.

This was Bush pushing the home ownership plan.

I don't think so....

America will become more Fascist and ruled by the corporate oligarchy. Elections will be more of a joke than they already are.

If you two love birds don't see Obamacare as Socialism then you both are in denial.

Incase you were too blinded by all the hope and change, Obama had the most money in his elections.

That isn't Socialism. The money is paid to private corporations, not the State. Just like car insurance.

We already live in a fascist, corporate oligarchy.

Once the fascists and the capitalists have leached everyone and everything dry and the people finally stand up, we will have a crucial decision to make. Will we have a restoration, returning to live under the guide of the constitution? Or will we have a revolution, creating a new communist state where we work together to make our lives better?

It will be interesting to see which road we decide to take.

I fail to see how the ACA could be called socialist. If it was a single-payer program, I would agree. But what Obamacare was/is is a fascist bill that forces you to either pay a corporate insurance company for a policy, or pay the government a fine.

About as far from socialism as it can get, wouldn't you agree?

As far as healthcare was concerned, I WANTED socialism. What we got, instead, was more a very blatant lining of the insurance companies' pockets.

You had something worse in mind? Instead of just the central government fining people for not participating, perhaps you had some gulag time in mind for your fellow comrades also?

Nope, just socialized healthcare. You know, like Canada, or the UK, or a lot of other developed nations have. Where you can get treated no matter how poor you are. You can choose to ignore the health and happiness value in a lot of those nations though. It only hurts the neocon worldview.

And every piece of legislation that truly matters that has passed in the US in the last few decades has not had the good of the common citizen in mind. I say "that truly matters" because things like gay marriage, abortion, etc, while important social issues, are NOT important government issues. They are hotbutton issues because they keep people angry at each other and ignoring the things that matter, like the many aggressions in countries full of brown people the US is currently juggling. Or how much money Wall Street can unabashedly steal from the working class.

While I'm no fan of Obamacare... how do you compare:

"Requiring people to purchase health insurance or pay a tax penalty."

to

"A way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies."

Last I checked, the health insurance companies offering coverage under the ACA are not owned by the government... that would be Medicare and Medicaid.

Again, you're parroting the nonsense you hear on Fox News. You might want to understand what Socialism actually is before you throw the term around all willy-nilly.

One of these days, you're going to say something factual and it's going to blow my mind.

No, we don't. The so called left in the US is further to the right than most right wing parties in other countries. What the US has is extreme right, far right, and moderate right. Even Obama who is portrayed as a far left winger has governed (based on actions) further to the right than Reagan. Let that sink in... Reagan was further to the left than our current left.
