There is a great gadget to assit in night time shoots it's called a torch preferably red light so it doesn't affect your dark adapted vision to much.

Yes I like those things. If you want to use it two ways, one for your vision and one as a ufo communicator , you really need a hand powered dynamo torch. I don't know why but the dynamo torch is much better at communicating with the ufos than a standard torch. It may be the changing light fluctuation that replicates the inner workings of a standard type ufo orb

I went sky watching last night. I don't have a very good camcorder. It's a GE camera/camcorder in one - but I felt like seeing what it can offer me as way as sky watching. That and it was a weird night that warranted sky watching. I have to clean up the video, cut out some of the useless dead air, and try to stabilize the shakiness (I didn't have a tripod) and I'll post the results. I recorded much more than the allotted 10 minutes youtube gives for length times of uploads. So let me work on it and I'll share the results in one or two videos on my youtube channel.

And am I supposed to believe that things people say are lit up like a Christmas tree are somehow too dim for your average phone's camera? C'mon.

I posted a sighting last year. I was outside with my cellphone, which has video on it. I snapped numerous pics and tried to get video, but it was too dark outside and my little crappy galaxy 3 had only the standard crappy camera that came with it. So yes, something that was very brightly lit, in the country, with hundreds of stars and the moon being incredibly bright, was too dim for that average phone camera. There is no "night" mode on those cameras.

I travelled to Nigeria last year and everyone there had a phone with a camera. Where in the world do you live where people don't own phones?

I don't own a phone anymore. Before I got one last year I hadn't owned one for several years. I've never owned a television either. And I know lots of folks who are the same. Not sure what the significance was of you mentioning Nigerians having cell phones...were you trying to make a statement? As in: "even the backward people in Nigeria own phones with cameras"? Because that's how it came across.

The OP said "night". I never limit myself to anything.

You're awfully assumptive and judgemental, aren't you? The entire statement I made was "If not, photos or just testimony would be more than appropriate for a discussion that is meant to be enjoyable, not a contest to see who has better electronics." Taking words out of context to try and belittle others just makes you look petty and boorish.

Anyone can make up anything they like and that would be enjoyable perhaps even entertaining but that doesn't make it true.

So....the people who have no photo or video evidence are lying? Is that your assertion here? Do you believe everything you see? Photos and video can be shopped. It doesn't equal "truth", just because there's a video.
There are people out there who cannot afford cameras or scopes. So because they are less fortunate, they're liars? Classy attitude. Thank you for proving my entire point for me though.

I think if you set up the thread, people will participate. Here's my testimony that I would.

I apologize for the wobbly video and poor resolution. I own a GE X400. I cropped it and stabilized the video to the best part, the best I could. I'm a novice. I can only do so much with it, but that won't stop me! I'll do what I can with what I have.

We were out that night around 11:00 until midnight or so.



My contribution to the ATS UFO Sky Watch Idea. It sounds fun, and doesn't cost me a thing, I already look up.

Oh - and I'm pretty sure the neighbors thought we were spying on them! LOL.

Not at all. Just that stories don't provide anything of value that mountains of stories before them haven't added to the subject.

I don't believe anything. That is what analysis is for.

Photos and video can be shopped.

And such can usually be detected. ATS is full of people who are quite good at finding such fakery. The point of using all-sky cameras is that you might actually get an object on more than one camera and be able to do some useful scientific analysis of the sighting.

You're basically arguing for less important/interesting evidence. Stories are just not scientifically interesting. There's simply nothing that can be examined other than the veracity of the witness.

3 things:

1) If you can find a tripod (they're pretty cheap used on eBay) get one.

2) Download a copy of Stellarium. It's free planetarium software. Put in your location and the time of your observation and you will know what planets and stars you filmed.

3) There are good satellite tracking apps, some of them free. These will help you eliminate like 90% of the satellites/ISS flyovers etc.

You and your husband are off to a good start but yeah, becoming familiar with what is normal will prevent looking silly reacting to planets, meteors, stars, satellites, the ISS, etc.

It will also help you notice things which are not normal.

Eliminating false positives helps discoveries stand out so that should be a priority for all sky watchers.

This would be really good if we could pinpoint the window areas.

I wish you and the others who want to participate in this endeavor the very best. Be prepared to receive the worst from some of the ATS crazies. Don't pay any attention to them. Good luck!!

If that was a response to my experiment, with my camcorder and night time viewing the skies - 1ofthe9 -

I was outside the entire time I shot the footage. With Stellarium - the two brightest orbs were the stars Prylon and and the planet Jupiter. Which I was quite tickled my camera/camcorder to could pick him up so brightly.

The other two stars/ufo's - that fluctuated in colors. The orange/red/green one and the Blue/Purple/Pink one, I could not identify. Even with the help of Stellarium.

Update:

After downloading Stellarium and going out to study the stars.

The two pulsating stars I took notice of was Sirius (pulsates blues, teal, pink) and Betelgeuse which pulsates reds,orange, and green.

So no UFO's in my Skywatch for April of 2015.

Yep, those along with Venus, Jupiter and Mars can look quite interesting to people who are just learning about the night sky. Less knowledgeable people report them to MUFON and NUFORC as "starlike" UFOs quite frequently and there are plenty of Youtube videos of people freaking out over them.

Don't be discouraged though! The night sky is full of wonders and the more you learn about it the more wonderful it becomes! And like I said, learning about it will help you notice something truly strange if you come across it.

If you can afford a good pair of astronomical binoculars you'll thank me later and they can also be used in your skywatch.

Not a bad effort considering the limitations of you camera the main problems are it's small sensor so noise will be a problem more so at high iso settings the other is auto-focus, at night with points of light manual focus is better.

I had a little chuckle at the start of your video saying clear night high light pollution

This is high light pollution below

This is to show a major problem living in a built up area, I live in the middle of a housing estate of about 150 houses in a small town surrounded by some larger towns and within 10 miles of a major city.

This photo below is taken at f4, 20 secs at iso 3200, 18mm focal length. I used the high iso to really show the problem.

Orion in the center, Taurus top right and Sirius bottom left.



Yet with a little bit of editing.



Although I do have access to a dark site about an hours drive from me.

If I had the cash to spare this is the camera I would use a Sony A7S



That would put a lot of claimed ufo's into the known category.

I could never afford the Sony A7S. Maybe if I sell a kidney or something!

Someday I hope to get a higher end video recorder - perhaps in a few years - if mine and my mother's business venture can get up and off the ground.
