I often wonder when these "the world will end cause x" people finally go "welp guess I was wrong."

How long have people been saying these things? Sure EVENTUALLY the USA will end and EVENTUALLY so will the world. But that's just because of pure probability and the sun will one day scorch the Earth regardless of anything else.

It WON'T be because someone figured it all out, it'll be pure dumb statistical luck for whomever eventually gets it right, and I doubt anyone would go "darn, guess I should have taken ATS more seriously."
