Keep this in mind:

Japan signed an instrument of surrender on Missouri in Tokyo Harbor on September 2, 1945.

The country's constitution took effect on May 3, 1947.

Japan regained full sovereignty on April 28, 1952.

How in the world do we expect to walk away from this after elections? It would be insanity to not expect to be there for years to come.

Just get rid of the iraq police and replace them witl military and make them dynamic. Instead of llike police that sit at the police station waiting for suicde bomb car to come by.

Same with the american miltarty they drive around iraq. Which places them at risk . They should be based in bases and move in the air crush the restiance fall back to base.

Less troops die, the military grows. The restiance then has no targets.
How easy it to drive a car into police stattion and blow it up too easy.
How easy it to drive past a US military vechile and blow them up too easy.

Checks points are also useless. Another easy great target for drive bombs.

The main bulk of the US forces ARE in base camps situated outside most of the key cities, this is done because of a lack of troops. There are not enough troops to patrol the cities 24/7 so they stay in bases just outside the city limits and conduct security exercises into the cities daily, as well as linking up with the towns central governments etc. It is when they rely between these points and other military bases that they get attacked.

Also air power is mostly useless in these types of situations because you do not know the location of the resistance fighters until they have attacked your ground forces (they blend in), and by the time air power arrives it is usually too late.

If the US troops did not make convoys trips to other military bases and airports there would be no supplies or reinforcements, and if they did not also make convoy trips into the cities to link up with town governments and conduct security patrols the towns would fall fully into resistance' hands.

Its amazing to see some of the speeds those US convoys travel at between hot spots (from what i've seen in video clips anyway), you would have to be a fairly good aim to hit one of them.
