Texas Open Carry Bill ... (and panic?)

The 'Progressives' in Texas must be in ... panic?

I just received an ugent phone call from a caller (and/or actor?) who sounded panicked when she said the [Texas] Senate was about to pass an 'Open Carry' Bill.

She wanted to connect me to someone in the State-of-Texas so that I could express my opposing-opinion to (I think) 'HB 937'.


I told her that I couldn't 'oppose' what I 'support' ...

she quickly hung up.


I have NEVER received any call about any Texas Bills before today.

They should take a tip from Kansas and have concealed carry without permit. It is the only way to reap all of the benefits of the threat of lethal self defense.

I am surprised by how much Texas has changed over the decades.

You need to defend the border when the war starts. Sounds legit to me.

1. Texas has a 2015-Estimated-Population of ... 28 Million.

2. Texas has an End-of-Year-2014 Active CHLs ... 800,000.

( or 1 in 35 with CHLs would be allowed to Open-Carry Handguns ...
and I hope this will increase in time )

NOTE: I have no idea what Kansas' situation was before their 'concealed carry without permit' legislation(s).

HOWEVER

I prefer the Must-Qualify-CHL/Open-Carry-Handgun the Texas-Way ...

I am not saying that the decision is an easy one but, I ultimately have concluded that no regulation is useful or constructive.

I have been tempted on occasion to alter that opinion only to resettle on it as appropriate.

I believe we all agree that criminals, spies and enemy combatants will all have access to illegal firearms without permit and therefore so should law abiding citizens.

I don't see much utility in open carry of you have the option of concealed carry but, I am completely open to arguments for it that I may not have considered.

Out if curiosity, what is the point behind open carry? To be able to carry bigger weapons?

On the one hand, I don't think more gun laws are going to somehow stop violent crime in the US-I live about an hour away from Chicago and over the years they have had pretty high murder rates despite strict gun laws.

On the other hand, I have to admit that if I saw some guy strolling through the grocery store with an AR-15 slung over his back it would make me fairly nervous. I didn't grow up around guns and when I see someone I don't know carrying one my brain automatically registers that person as a threat.
