Oh, he slapped the hell out that guy! Poor guy is in hiding because he is afraid the cops buddies will be coming for him.

miami.cbslocal.com...

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Ft. Lauderdale police officer who was caught on a cell phone video slapping a homeless man has been charged. The Broward State Attorney’s Office has charged Officer Victor Ramirez, 34, two misdemeanor counts of battery and one count of falsifying records. “The officer will now be relieved from duty without pay until those charges are resolved. He will not be working for the Ft. Lauderdale Police Department,” said Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler.

The more of this we see, the less of that we will see.

Good on them.

Good! This is the way it should work.

Personally, I think any other cop who decides to take revenge against this guy should get the "Danny Deever" treatment.

Cops should be required to hold and maintain a state license that can be revoked upon determination of serious moral or ethical violation.

They do! But it needs to be federal so you get it elevated out of local politics. And there needs to be a sort of "untouchables" hit squad that goes to various cities and does things that are lawful but provocative - take photos of cops, go to protests, stand outside of police precincts and the like. When the crap cops come out and start scuffing their feet and snorting, they get decertified on the spot.

It'd thin the herd in months. And once the LEOs get the idea that the next snark just might be a boojum, that attitude will begin to change. It's hard to get your rocks off shrieking in helpless people's faces or punching them in the face or shooting their dogs when the very next second might see the permanent end of your career.

You could boost the effect by decertifying any LEO in the vicinity who failed their duty to intervene, or to report the misbehavior of their buddy, or who file false reports to cover for them. Before long, the omerta crap would end as well.

Enlightened self-interest combined with punitive feedback always works.

I like the way you think. I would rather see it implemented at the state level, though, with an option for LEOs to appeal to a federal court.

I wish I knew more about how to present ideas like this to state legislature.
