Sanders wows Austin: Watch out Hillary, here comes Bernie

Sanders is the real deal. He lives and breathes this stuff. If he runs with Elizabeth Warren as his running mate, the Right will have to dust off their bag of dirty tricks to make any headway against them.

Of course, that's all the Right do anyway IMHO.

While I would love for bernie to be the knight in shining armor, I as well have reservations.

Speeches are speeches, Barry said a lot of things that sound nice too.
He has come through on a couple but not all.


In order for him to get the money it takes to run, he has to sell out in our system.

Anyone on either side with half a brain knows that ought to pick up votes. No one really wants either a Bush or a Clinton. A half-witted muskrat with only one testicle could pick up a decent percentage of the vote by denouncing the elite families in US politics.

In all honesty, I don't want to see either leave the Senate. I think their voices are much more needed and effective in the Senate then in the Executive.

I'd like to see Dennis Kucinich run again, he's a plucky and impressive dude - and, I think, terrifies the republicans (hence they gerry-mandered him out of a congressional seat). He has a lot of both legislative and executive experience and, while very pragmatic, cannot be intimidated by power forces.

Heck I'd like to see Ralph Nader run on his Left/Right alliance idea.

Do you really think the nation wants to get out and vote for a ticket that doubles down on Obama style populist rhetoric after having just lived through what that brought us?

I'm not sure it is although people are dumb enough and enough of them rely on handouts these days that you may be right.

As I state eariler, there are hours upon hours, of Senator Sanders talking about everything under the sun on the "Brunch with Bernie" segment of the Thom Hartmann show. Every week, year after year, he has been discussing the topics of the day and taking questions from regular folk.

That would be fine and dandy and I don't doubt he is, still doesn't change what it takes to run and win in our beloved country.

When he is generaly consistant - as you could hear. He is flexible enough to change his mind and approach to things as circumstances and facts change which is a healthy approach to life.

I think being inflexible and close minded are not admirable traits. Insisting on doing the same things or following the same approach over and over without results isn't consistancy - it's insanity.

Did some research on Bernie and he really seems like a person who genuinely believes in what he preaches. He's got long and honest record, obviously somebody who has strong beliefs and principles. I don't think it's fair to judge him without knowing anything about him, like many of you do. Comparing him with Obama is really ignorant. Do your own research before judging.

To me Bernie should be president and I’d vote for him but he has no chance to win.

This is a tough call for me because i LOVE Bernie Sanders.

The problem for me though, fair or not, is he is a long shot at best and would basically give the election to the Republican candidate. And whoever that ends up being will undoubtedly be against social security, medicaid, etc and in favor of tax cuts for the wealthiest. Basically everything Bernie mentioned.

This world would be a much better place if Bernie was president, but unfortunately, Democratic U.S. presidents have to be moderate at best to have any kind of chance because of crap like Citizens United, which ironically is one of Bernie's biggest fights he's putting up as we speak.

Until the general public wakes up and stops being so sheltered and apathetic, wonderful men and women like Bernie Sanders won't have a chance against the billions of dollars that their opposition has. The root of the problem has to be taken out first, which is getting money out of politics.

So Bernie may never be President, but he's leading the fight that would open doors for someone like him in the near future. Personally, he's in my book as one of the greatest Americans in the history of the U.S.

I don't think Bernie has a chance, the media has drug the word socialist through the mud for to long. He is basically the socialist Ron Paul at this point. Bernie has some degree of integrity though. It's refreshing to see an unapologetic socialist. There are plenty of closet socialists in the Democratic party. While I don't favor socialism, I think he has more balls and consistency than the rest of the names floating around. I actually like Bernie despite our disagreements. I kinda love his deranged looking messy hair rants too.

His only chance of winning is if Americans decide to be honest about wanting big government. As much as I hate big government, I'm seeing a lot of cry babies demanding government intervention through out this country.

Good if someone can put a cog in Hilary's machine, looks like it's him, being on the same party line anyway. If he throws in a lot of medical, decriminalization and or recreational legalization help that may bring him farther at this point. As Hilary says to be waiting on views of federal decriminalization at this point on the success of the recreationally legal states.

I have been thinking about that, I agree - first logical conclusion is that he hasn't got a chance. But there is one problem with that: we are looking at things from this point of time and assume that things will pretty much stay the same until elections. I am not so sure. If things start deteriorating at rapid pace (both politically and economically), which is pretty reasonable scenario when you think of all problems that surround us, than I think that he's got a chance.

Furthermore I think that people are more awake than ever and that majority of them are becoming painfully aware that this system is rotten to the core and that there is not much time to try to change it in orderly fashion because otherwise chaos and misery will prevail...

I disagree. I think the GOP will have a very difficult time in beating either Warren or Sanders. The problem comes in them getting through the primary. The GOP has very few people who can stand up to either of them, which isn't to say they have none... I think Giuliani could do it but this year is shaping up to be the tea party year. In 2012 they got a person into the VP slot and lost. They've won more seats in Congress since so they might get someone like Cruz for president. If you looked at the polls here Cruz was enormously popular.

Both Sanders and Warren have something that's rare in Democrats, and that's a sound fiscal policy. I think that (plus a unifying hatred for the banks) could carry either of them through an election and get them a message that reaches across the aisle.

Watch the media try to marginalize him like Ross, Perot, Ron Paul or anyone else who actually understands what the common man is going through.
