This is off topic, but Russia and Persia have long been at odds. This rivalry will soon be heating up as they vie for influence in Central Asia. Iran knows that the United States is a more lucrative market than Russia, so be prepared for a major shift in the geopolitical axis.

Exactly three years later the president of the United States has pushed Iran firmly back into Russia's orbit. Coincidence?

Fascism historically arose in nations under threat of communist take over from within. This was the case with Spain, Italy and Germany in the 1920 - 30's. It places preservation of the state as the highest priority in response to some threat. Maintaining the economy is coequal with preserving the government so in practice it is a merger of corporate and state interests.

It's what happened to the US after 9/11 when emergency powers were invoked. Both it and the events in Europe 70 years prior were presented as acts of national self-preservation. Yet by circumventing the rule of Republican democracy and individual rights they in essence destroy the very thing they claim to be saving.

Correct. We need to be unwinding the security state, not tightening it.
