Wasn't taking anything away from the driver. Yes, he was calm. And clearly knew the cop was being an ass.

My point was it was cool of the pax to talk to him and help him stay calm instead of sitting in the back like they were deaf, dumb, and blind.

Not even sure why this is a point that needed "correcting" to be honest, but whatever I guess.

The NYPD detective who was caught on video chewing out an Uber driver has been stripped of his shield and gun, and will be placed on modified duty, Police officials said.

Detective Patrick Cherry has been removed from the department’s elite Joint Terrorism Task Force and will be doing desk duty until he is officially transferred out of the prestigious division.

“No good cop should watch that video without a wince,” Commissioner Bill Bratton said at a Wednesday press conference. “Because all good cops know that officer just made their jobs a little bit harder.”

Glad to that happened.

Thanks for the follow up.

Glad something was done about this.

I saw this on Google news a little bit ago and thought about posting it as well.

This "cop" is nothing but a bully. Not sure what the driver did to get pulled over by a LEO in a suit, but me thinks the LEO was having a VERY bad day and took it out on the guy.

Not a good idea in this technological age. All LEO's should act and speak like they are being recorded, because anymore, they are. Glad they caught his tantrum on video. It should be used in training as to how NOT to speak and treat people.

He honked his horn...in New York!

and don't you just love how he invents some phony traffic violations
he was too busy to arrest the guy,
but he took the time for monetization purposes, to work on getting his quota filled.

just goes to show cops are just the modern day version of "the kings men"
just a bunch of thugs in uniform [and masonic badges] shaking people down for money.
when not outright dragging them off to the slave pits.

ptooey!

Wow.. One commends that person on their ability to allow a terrorist to terrorize them unencumbered. One would've stood their ground and shot them for terroristic threats. Not to kill of course, but one would aim for the knee cap.

There is probably a 80% chance this cop will end up shooting an unarmed suspect who "lunged" at him.

Hell I wouldn't be surprised if he's all ready got a few "clean shootings" under his belt.

didn't you see the latest bs from the po-po?
during a handcuffing the cop brushed up against a pill bottle in the suspects pocket,
concluded: GUN!!!!
and shot to kill www.abovetopsecret.com...

now some of these sociopaths are demanding we hold our hands up, the better to rob and kill us
soon they'll be demanding we immediately, strip upon an officer coming into our visual field too

oh...
so now the cops want to bark "hands up!" at you...

lol, good luck with that.

someone comes up behind me and shouts "hands up!", I'll be shooting from the hip
just like with any other mugger...

It's all about the unions. It's called solidarity. In NYC the taxi drivers have a union and the cop belongs to another one. The taxi driver's union believes that Uber is taking away their jobs.

So cops can hit you with the sirens, the lights, a tanoy, a breathalyser and a dui for driving like a jerk...

But bib/honk an officer when they do it and it's "who are you" time...

Imagine he'd hit sirens, lights, a tanoy and started a citizens arrest for suspected dui...

When would the mace and taser have come out???

He's making the apology rounds now and is claiming "No one should be treated that way, I'm sorry." In other words, I got caught.

The 'I'm sorry' rounds

He adds: 'People shouldn’t be treated that way. I let my emotions get the better of me and I was angry.

'My intention was to be courteous and then we got into an argument. There was no intention to berate or hurt deeply the driver.'

Wow! If THAT'S courteous, I'd hate to see rage!

The New York Post reported in addition to being stripped of his badge, Detective Patrick Cherry will be placed on modified duty before being transferred out of the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

No more JTTF for you! No you go on to being a regular Joe Blow cop who just shoots people, too bad!

Uber's response

'Our Uber driver, Humayun, was abused by a police officer today in New York,' Sanjay Seth, who took the video, wrote on his Facebook page on Monday.

'The unending rage, door slamming, throwing items into the car, threatening arrest without cause was bad enough - but the officer's remarks at the end really took it to another level.'

'The behavior in the video is wrong and unacceptable and we appreciate the NYPD investigating the incident,' Uber said in a statement.

'We are in touch with our driver-partner who was subjected to this terrible experience and will continue to provide any support he needs.'

Glad to see they're supporting their driver who did nothing wrong. Some companies, ANY confrontation with police, your fault or not, can result in termination.

I like this part:

'My intention was to be courteous and then we got into an argument. There was no intention to berate or hurt deeply the driver.'

Even during his apology he tries to place blame on the driver.

There was no argument, there was no "we".

I'm glad this guy is at least getting busted down in rank, I hope that action comes with a hefty pay cut. Sadly I'm sure his family will be the true losers in that scenario. Since that amazing display of self control, in public and in front of witnesses, was so grotesque. It's obviously a display of his true personality. I'm sure at home in private he's just a peach, and like many statistics suggest, is probably verbally and physically abusive.

A true asset to humanity.
