Interestingly few women (if any from what I could see) posted and slammed her for being a man etc etc...

It was very sad to see the first chance the men (who tend to post from a conservative stance on ATS) got to make a 'safe' attack on her physicality, they jumped on it...

Otherwise, if it wasn't about jumping at the chance to attack this womans physical appearance, it appears we have here a hidden quota of men who are in fact fashion hags, with a level of 'bitchiness' that would do 'ol Joan Rivers proud.

You folks should be aware that African-American hairstyles tend to be somewhat different than those of other races. In Africa itself short hair on women is more commonplace than long hair.

There is also a trend these days for women to show solidarity with other women who are suffering from breast cancer by cropping their hair close or shaving it altogether.

From my perspective it shows Michelle Obama in a different light. Whether she pulled her hair back tightly or cut it very short, she is making a statement about her own individuality. Surely she knew that this look would stimulate a great deal of conversation, if not outright derision. This shows me that she has a certain amount of intestinal fortitude that was missing in past first-ladies.

And, for me, a woman's intestinal fortitude is her most attractive feature. While the rest of you may prefer your women to be demure and docile, I like a woman who can stand up to anyone, male or female. A woman who can give as good as she gets!

When I saw the image in the OP, I let out a long, low, guttural growl through a Klingon-like sneer. Now that's a woman! While the rest of you men may make fun of her new look, I would advise you to be more respectful, a woman like this is a true leader of her gender. And a group of angry determined women can lay waste to the male population like a knife through hot butter!
