IE is a joke. What confuses me is that anyone would trust a MS browsing tool for their computer again. You can change the browser but it's still...well..Microsoft.

You can take the browser out of Microsoft, but you can't take Microsoft out of the browser.

Agreed..a new name and branding is of no great excitement with IE's past track record...

Microsoft doesn't have to kill it. It's been on its death bed for years now. Good riddance, I say.

“We'll continue to have Internet Explorer, but we’ll also have a new browser called Project Spartan, which is codenamed Project Spartan."

Brilliant. I wonder how long it took to come up with that codename.

"We are creating a new browser called 'Project Spartan'. We need to think of a cleaver codename for it. Any suggestions?"

"I've got one ... how about 'Project Spartan'?"

"Yeah, that will do just fine! You really know how to pick'm!"

No, I have been using IE since 1996 and never had any problems.

It's no surprise what has happened.
And Microsoft let it happen due to the 'corporate' mentality.

Back in the old days everybody used IE because that's all there was.
Corporate used it too. That's where MS's bread and butter was.

A the web evolved consumers wanted features.
Corporate wanted security and cross country servers.
That's what MS gave them. After all Corporate paid MS per user for each new version of IE.
Consumers got it free.

That business model worked fine until big corporations were supplanted by small companies with no need for cross country servers.
For them standard 'windows' and 'office' was enough.
Features became more important.
The web changed but MS followed their corporate mentality.
Until their cash flow suffered.

I still prefer IE. But I cannot get by without Chrome.
The web has become 'consumerized'.
MS needs a consumer browser too.

Now Windows is stating that Windows 10 will be free..WIRED

I have been using IE since they stopped updating Netscape Navigator. I don't see any problem with it. Its good to have an all around anti virus application to enhance IEs security.

Just recently started using Google Chrome, not sure I like it that much because it continues to nag me about setting up a profile. Not gonna happen.

In 20 years of application development, I've NEVER seen any such "reliance" on IE. Most web based applications use the very same HTML/5 that Firefox and Chrome use, so there is nothing special about IE...other than it handles internal objects better, and draws things (pages) better than Chrome. All of the differences are very minor! Even the security issues you imagine.

I only know a case of depending on IE, and it was on the company where I work, as we had a program made in Visual Basic 6 and needed "web" version, so the quickest (very quick, a program with more than 4000 pages of code was converted in less than one week) way of making it was to convert the program to ActiveX objects and use them on web pages, but only IE uses ActiveX.
