Majik???

What is majik?

I understand the differences between 'magic' and 'magick'; 'magic' being an illusion like what a magician does, and 'magick' being to do with spirituality, occult, witchcraft etc. But what is 'majik'? Has it got any other meaning or is it just a spelling variation? I couldn't seem to find it using the search feature so could somebody explain!

I was referring to when people use it in place of magick! Just curious to see if its meaning was any different to magick/magic thats all. Guess not.

I always spell it magic... I think its silly to spell it with a j or k. However, I don't practice magic, so I don't have any personal attachments to the spelling. Maybe I can understand the person who practices magic rituals to be p-o'd about being confused with the guy who comes to bday parties...
But I hear "magicians" like to be called "illusionists" these days!

Many if us spell it differently to differentiate between the magic as "stage" and the magick of energy....to answer your question, I copy something from my site......yes it's copy and paste but they are my words. my site....


First let me say, I love the word "magick" just as I do the word "witch", but I hate using the word to those not in the craft. Why? It gives a mental image of the old stereotype, you know the one, kind a like "Bewitched" or "I Dream Of Jeanie", or something on the "negative" side of thought! Magick is a science, older than Physics, Biology, or Chemistry, it's just that "modern" science is just now starting to look into what we have known for centuries. Now, that said... What Magic Is: Magic is the use of energies that exist within and around us. Magick is not supernatural. Magick is not good, nor is it bad, it is nuetral Just as a knife is nuetral, it can help us cut our food or... it can kill someone, it is ones use of the knife which is good or bad. The energy used in magic is the same... nuetral. It is present in all things. Our "modern scientist" will agree on that much. Sand, rock, air, the earth, water, animals, ourselves, everything! All things have thier own vibration, or energy. Learning to use your own energy along with the energy of other things and/or people, you bring about the change you desire. What Magic Is Not: First and foremost, magick is not something to play with it is very serious business! You must know what the different required componets are used for, how to prepare them (charge, or empower them), You must have the timing right for what you are wanting to do and you need to master, as best as you can, visualization! Magick is not a toy! Sending out energies to run amuck will have repercussions, as often as not, serious ones! Read, read, read, and know what, why, and to what end, of what you are doing. magick does not know limitations. You must set your own limitations. Be very specific in what you are asking for! You want money to pay the bills, yes. But you don't want a windfall because Aunt Agatha suddenly became ill and died! The energies you direct, will find thier way, one way or another so, be very, very specific!

Majik is a word I use to stress the difference between spiritual and illusions in forms of magic.

So when you are speaking, do you say "Last night when I was practicing my majic (that's with the "jic" not the "gic") anyway, so I was casting this spell and..."

Thankyou, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

LadyV you have some great points there. Thanks. I completely agree that when most people hear of witches they think of the stereotypical witch. I know and deeply understand some of the consequneces that can arise from thoughlessly using magick. I have experienced such consequences myself and learnt from them.

In a nutshell, there is no difference. Blame Crowley for the misgivings, he started the whole mispelling thing. Adding a "j" of a "k" makes the person using that spelling feel superior to the ones who use the correct spelling. No offense to LadyV... I'm just making a statement.

The answer is yes. Majik is a variation of magick like soothsayer mentioned, although I haven't seen that thread. Got a link?

And curme...it's not to differentiate while speaking because when one is in coversation, it's already a given as to what topic one is discussing. It's to differentiate in writing when it is being mentioned briefly.
