Yesterday Junckler President of EU has been quite loud. In interview in Welt am Sonntag he spoke about a need for EU Army as military co-operations within EU is not enough to integrate EU and does not send strong enough message to Russia.

The European Union needs its own army to face up to Russia and other threats, as well as to restore the bloc's standing around the world, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told a German newspaper yesterday (8 March).

Arguing that NATO was not enough because not all members of the transatlantic defense alliance are in the EU, Juncker said a common EU army would send important signals to the world.

"A joint EU army would show the world that there would never again be a war between EU countries," Juncker told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. "Such an army would also help us to form common foreign and security policies and allow Europe to take on responsibility in the world."

This action would make NATO useless within EU and even leave Germany defenseless against the Russia as there would be only two nuclear powers UK and France.
Russia sees this as a provocation.. of course.

"In the nuclear age extra armies do not provide any additional security", said first deputy chairman of the United Russia faction in the State Duma, Frants Klintsevich
***
He recalled that the idea of creating a European army had never occurred to anyone even in the years of the acute confrontation between NATO and the Warsaw Treaty Organization.

"These days, when the Warsaw Treaty is long gone, for some reason there has developed a need for that," he wondered.

"One should presume that a European army is seen as an addendum to NATO. And in this kind of situation Western politicians are not shy to accuse Russia of some aggressiveness," Klintsevich said.

Itar-Tass

The problem is that quite many in high seats seem to see the EU army as a good solution, which is caused by the aggressive behavior of Russia in the first place, the danger is that they will be poking a bee nest.

What a Crazy World we are living in..

Well it is only logical, why would the EU need seperate armies, that would be like Texas having an army and Kansas has one and they don't work together. It just doesn't make sense.
And this:

leave Germany defenseless against the Russia as there would be only two nuclear powers UK and France.
is just bs, we have no nuclears now and with a joined army we would, so...
The question is does anyone want Germans having access to nuclear weapons? People tend to get tense when a German is bearing a rifle...

Well NATO is a European Army...

Only the soldiers are enlisted to their respective countries...

Good luck trying to get those soldiers to put Europe over their country...

What happens when a EU country steps out of line...
Will they be sending their own troops to destroy their own infrastructure???

eg Britain refuse to pay back a loan...

EU send in their "Army" full of British soldiers...

Yeah, sure!

Sounds like a really NAZI idea as well!

Where is Juncker from?

I think an EU army is needed because of the issue of troop deployment in different countries. Germany doesn't want to deploy troops in Poland, France doesn't want to deploy troops in Latvia, etc. With an EU military they can be deployed wherever the threat is located. It really helps the many small countries that have a small military.

Next step in EU integration.

No your analogy is not correct...

Our current system in Europe is not like State armies working seperately...

A true analogy of this proposal is like Canada, U.S, Mexico, Argentina and every other American country having 1 Army...

& it's a terrible idea imo.

The 'EU army' has been spoken about for years but from a UK perspective I can't see us being involved in that at all. The whole debate here in recent years has been cutting more of the ties to centralised EU policy and looking at it more as trading partners.
The Eurozone currency countries might be into it but I just can't see the UK joining, not unless some serious social/cultural conditioning is done before hand, which I'm sure would be discussed on ATS lol

If you see the EU as an institute which actually have a bright future that would make some sense. But the EU is nothing more than a sinking ship which keeps fighting for its existence in Europe. There is more people against EU than for EU in deep rows of citizens, but it doesn´t matter. In EU changes are forced to people without asking peoples opinion. IF they decide to create the Army we won´t be asked, it just happens. At the moment Germany has US back in war games if needed. An Army would integrate EU as it would be a step towards "One rule" system, where separate countries has no say if they want to participate in war games or not.
EU is not US, US has a long history in the united states system. The EU is parent who doesn´t like or care it´s children.

Well you are not correct in my opinion, because this is the longterm goal of the EU, to become a valid competitor to the US and China, which they totally wouldn't stand a chance at all, if they continue this half-arsed approach. A shared constitution and a shared army are the next steps. Step by step taking down the national gouvernment and make the smaler federal states directly subordinate to the EU parliament. It is a matter of costs too.
Don't know where in Europe you are from, but I am assuming Britain?
Don't worry you guys are out and won't be missed anyways. Nobody with a working mind would count on England to put continental Europe over their close relationships with other parts of the former common wealth. You already are not part of the Union. So if the rising water levels will swallow the poor tiny island: swim to the west.

a reply to: dollukka
well we will see, right? A growing number of Europeans are against the EU because this is how it works with the average joe who doesn't have an eye for the bigger picture.
Europe is still attractive and it wasn't Germany that forged the numbers of for example the Greek economy. Just a little bit of "birth pains".

Hahaha, brilliant, good luck with your EU masters and your new army to control you, I'm glad us Brit's aren't as wrapped up in it as the Eurozone folk are. The UK will survive out of the EU if that happens, have no fear.

Hmmm, this is something David Icke has been predicting for a very long time. The intention of a E.U Military machine, in order to serve TPTB and act out their every whim.

Martial Law could be called all across Europe and the U.K could find themselves being soldiered by Italians or Greeks or Germans.

Dare we leave the E.U if they do form an Army? Will they see it as a sign of aggression, daring to leave the gravy train and compete with them?

And why don't we have an army that will fight against NATO and the US?

I mean, if you call what's Russia doing an aggressive behaviour, i wonder what you call all the things that has been done by the both NATO and the US.

Just to make something clear. It's not that i love Russia this much so i have to defend it everytime, it's just that i know what the US and NATO represent and what they have done in the past, and just what kind of people run them, so I fight against that. I don't fight for Russia or Putin, i couldn't care less about them. If it was any other country in Russia's current position, I'd be defending them.

If we really think Russia represents a danger to ordinary people, and not to the current organizations that are controlling this world, then there's something wrong with us...

If you ask me, I would get rid of all armies of this world. I would get rid of all the nuclear bombs, weapons and everything that is capable of destroying life's. When we start thinking of ourselves as one giant civilization, and not of our nationalism, we will move forward. We are all the same.

And i realize i totally missed the point of this thread and went way off topic, that's what happens when you drink some vodka

We'll be EEA members long before that if you ask me, just trade without the benefits, costs, and control of the EU.
It'll be trade war if anything....fighting at the beaches, nope don't see it.

The EU is an abomination that needs to be stopped. I am sure that from your American standpoint it is a good thing though.

So I'll just ask you to address the fallacy above.

so when the EUSSR becomes fully established will me and my family be entitled to political asylum
in the US because i will never except full integration within Europe.
and a collective military is another step down that slippery slope.
it is yet another in the string of insane crap dripping out of the EU parliament.
i a feel it would be a step to far as far as Russia is concerned and i dont want to be on the receiving
end of Russia's displeasure.

Ah the classic UK delusions of grandeur. Maybe want to check your economical figures sometime?
But sure, sure, you guys will compete and WIN against China in every thinkable way. The Great in your islands name messing with your head a lot. You are a tiny little country living of the benevolence of USA and Saudi-Arabia. Once they notice it doesn't work to use you as entrance door to control European politics you will be all alone. A true sister to Island and Greenland... Oh no wait they are smarter and part of the EU.
Also you are the ones with the biggest surveilance machinery, you do know that? So yeah say hail to your new Persian King. He already knows your facial expression when you #.

you are part of the economical free trade Europe, but not of the Union. Big difference.

Mate, us Brit's won't even accept the Euro currency, let alone British troops serving in an EU controlled army.
Closer working perhaps but in a sovereign EU force, nah, can't see it, ever.
