Study claims Drummers are more intelligent than others...

I've been playing drums for about 25 years now and i've had several people ask me over the years how hard is it to play drums...

Well, like any instrument, you can probably work out a standard 4/4 beat without too much trouble if you practice.

Where it gets difficult and a lot of people don't understand this is with 4 way independence. It is damn hard to achieve and then you also have metric modulation etc etc.

Not easy stuff...but fun

Listening to Peart play The Rhythm method is what made me want to play drums. My top 5 fave drummers though are:

Peart
Bill Bruford
Simon Phillips
Phil Gould
Mark Brezezicki

And lastly, my fave drum joke...

How do you know that a drummer is at your front door?

He knocks out of time and doesn't know when to come in!

I forgot to list my 3 favourite tubthumpers...

Tom Lee did an awesome drum solo when i saw him with his band Methods Mayhem in Glasgow around the turn of the century. Matt Sorum was always my favourite growing up. Having a tough time thinking of a 3rd favourite though...
