Another radioactive water leak in the sea has been detected at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, the facility’s operator TEPCO announced. Contamination levels in the gutter reportedly spiked up 70 times over regular readings.

The sensors are connected to the gutter that pours rain and ground water from the plant to a bay adjacent to the facility.

Fresh leak at Fukushima nuclear plant sees 70-fold radiation spike

This is first first thread so please take it east on me.

The quote and first link are from RT, but her is another From ENE
According to AFP the TEPCO spokesman did not specify the cause of the leak. Which was identified at 10am local time
The levels of contamination were between 50 and 70 times higher than the already elevated radiation levels there.
They say they blocked the gutter once they found out, to prevent further contamination. Radiation levels are said to have gone down throughout the day but were still measured at 10-20 times higher than before.
I also heard rumors of a uranium fire, on the radio, though no one has reported it on it yet. They said you could see it from the live feeds but none are accessible from my phone.

Woohooo! Burn Earth Burn!

So happy they blocked that gutter once they found it was leaking....always better to put bandaids on rather than actually fixing something. I wonder how many workers have actually died from working there at this point.

What is the response of water when you block its natural path?
Evidently to TEPCO, problem solved.

This kind of emergency should have an international response team of experts that can move in at the first sign of any danger .
The power companies that operate these plants are making vast amounts of money , so funding of such a team or teams should not be a problem .

we should not forget that any problem that occurs at a nuclear plant can effect our planet globally , not just the country where the plant is located .

Would this be correct: "Fukushima equals 1 Hiroshimas EVERYDAY !!!"

I agree... We need a new Red Adair, or Boots Hansen....

Boots & Coots & Nukes... Some skilled rednecks could have that mess straight in no time...Throw a real American Cowboy at it and see what happens!

Comparing Fukushima to Hiroshima is probably an exercise in futility. Undoubtedly, the Fukushima accident has release many times more radiation than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, but putting a number on that would be difficult, as well misleading. The initial Hydrogen explosions at the plant probably released a few times more radiation that Hiroshima at onset, and the continued leaking and fission products of the Corium are still contaminating huge amounts of the water off the Eastern Japanese coast.

The spikes could be indicative of a burst or major leak new somewhere, which is likely. This is problematic because if water levels drop in the reactor vessels the Corium will probably begin melting again which would release HUGE amounts of radiation.

Red Adair did not do too well during the Gulf war he charges one million per well but there was too many well's on fire for him to handle , so other companies were brought in and they did the job in half the time and for a fraction of the cost .

Fukushima IS the end, you're not patient enough. I assure you though, we're all gonna die.

None the less he was a pioneer and that is the attitude we need to look at this mess... Some smart brave men that can smother this mess, and prevent further mishaps. I know oil wells are not nuke plants, but to have a group that everbody knows "That is who you call 1st", would seem to be a wise mood... Instead of private companies trying to sweep as much as they can under the rug to avoid regulatory issues, along with keeping it as cost effective as possiable.. I'm sorry but sometimes cost effective is the wrong choice, and so is letting companies that can this big of an enviornmental impact police themselves, until it gets so far out of hand nothing can fix it... we do need a "we'll take it from here" team to step in anywhere in the world when the chance of leaving part of Earth uninhabitable exisits, you never let the coyote guard the Hen house

No, no, no... I distinctly remember reading that the recent earthquakes didn't cause damage the plant... So... you know... lol

I don't understand how this, and close-to-failing and/or leaking reactors around the world, aren't the world's number 1 priority... Or at least a LITTLE higher on the list?...

Here's an NBC article that claims the leak has been known ad unreported for TEN MONTHS! NBC article
And here is An article from Reuters

I apologize for not replying to many posts, I am by no means an expert, or even a novice on this subject. I figured ATS would like to know about it.
