What happened to the Northern Kingdom?

If I am not misaken After Solomons death the kingdom of Israel split up into the southern kingdom of Judah which was comprised of the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin. Then the Northern kingdom which was comprised of all the other tribes. MY QUESTION IS, if jews are judahites and benjamites what happened to the rest of the tribes? Did they just disapear while in captivity? I mean if Jews are just the tribe of Judah where are the other tribes?
