It could be very true! She used to cook Catherines food and Catherine was known to have died from arteriosclerosis. Although I can't prove it the story has been passed down generations and brought to ATS. It's possible that I could also be a relative. Please discuss this with me.

One of my relatives was the Sheriff of Nottingham (well Constable was the true title), hehe...

Though of course, the reality of Robin Hood is still in contention, as is the exact time period...from most accounts, my relative would have fit the period, and was Constable at the time.

So, what are the details behind the story passed down?

Arteriosclerosis has a lot of contributing causes, including age. In fact, most people over 50 have arterial plaques and this would be particularly true of anyone who ate rich foods (like queens), was overweight (like some queens), sat around a lot, and so forth.

I doubt your ancestors are responsible for everyone who has/had arteriosclerosis.

But an ancestor who cooked for royalty -- there's an interesting story! Can you tie it into any favorite recipes?

(moving this to chit chat because .... well... Imperial Russia isn't an ancient or lost civilization)

"I doubt your ancestors are responsible for everyone who has/had arteriosclerosis."

True! However, the food that they used to make was very rich. It seems that many of my relatives died from the same thing - arterisclerosis. I would bet the same happened to Catherine.

Well the story starts in modern day Poland, however at the time I beleive it was Germany. Catherine went to Russia and lots of Germans also went over after Catherine took power. My grandmother told my aunt that a relative used to cook the same food that they were cooking. I kind of didn't believe the story except for the fact that all of the women on moms side have the name Catherine in their name somewhere. The funny thing is that Catherine was real paranoid and didnt really trust to many people so I wonder if they could've been related some how. This would've been like 1700. Then to take it further a relative from that side ended up getting married to my relative from Poland. The family was very wealthy and controlled or owned like a city or something like that. My great-grandfather was scorned because he was scheduled to be married to someone else. He then left for America with his new wife. On the 1930 census my great-grandfather called her Cinderella. Seems like a plausible story I guess and a fun one.
