Despite the fact that Iran's first nuclear power plant is to be opening in 2005 or in 2006, the Iranians still feel that they need to expand their
nuclear ties with Russia. Despite the fact that the Russians have been helping Iran develop their first nuclear power plant, Iran still feels that
they need to be in more on the new nuclear technology. This is very interesting based upon the agreement that Iran just reached with the European
nations late last month. Now, the Iranians have made it public that they wish to make their nuclear technology far more advanced than it currently
is.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Iran told nuclear partner Russia on Wednesday it would have to show "readiness" to expand nuclear ties with Tehran to secure a
solid share of Iran's atomic market in face of growing competition from Europe.
Moscow has built a $1 billion nuclear reactor in Iran in defiance of strong criticism from the United States, which believes Tehran can use the
facility to make atomic bombs.
But Russia's stance on Iran toughened since President Vladimir Putin's re-election in March gave more priority to ties with Washington, with both
softening their criticism of each others' military operations in Iraq and Chechnya.

Iran will be opening the Bushehr nuclear power plant either next year or in 2006, depending on which source you are using. This shows that their
nuclear ties with Russia have been significant enough to be able to develop this nuclear power plant. Now that Iran has agreed to temporarily halt
their uranium enrichment program, however this article shows that they are still definately looking to expand upon their nuclear program.
Now that Russia is trying to maintain a good relationship with the United States, Russia has been forced to tell the world that Iran's nuclear program
has no ambitions but peaceful ones. Russia claims that they will only help in building a peaceful nuclear program in Iran, however this seems to
counter those claims. Russia now will become even more fearful of the repurcussions because it is possible that Iran will go to other countries that
will help them out.
