Google Caved In?

I wasn't sure where to post this; it may be a religious conspiracy and/or a technology and/or a legal issue.

What I don't undertand is how Google can be considered an ISP (I suppose technically it is providing an Interet-related service, but it's not what most people would consider an "ISP").

I also don't see how a service like Google can be held accountable for the content of each and every one of the millions of web sites it indexes. Seems pretty ridiculous! (Does this mean that if my daughter does an innocent Google query, and ends up at a porn site, I can sue Google?)

I'm not questioning the Church of Scientology's right to protect their copyrighted material, but surely they should be going after the actual sites that are posting such material, and/or those sites' actual ISPs and/or web hosting services.

Seems like the thin end of the wedge. If I type a query into Google, I want to see every relevant hit. If Google is just going to roll over on such issues, I'll find a new search engine!

Google is an Internet Service Provider because it supplies several internet services.

1: Google is an Internet Service providing searches of the Internet Realm.
2: Google is an Internet Service providing a public e-mail system.(GMail)
3: Google is an Internet Service providing advertising and personalized searches to websites.
5: Google is an Internet Service providing search and indexing systems to corporate clients on both hard and software levels.

Google is also an Internet Service registered on wallstreet, owned by whoever has money to buy their stock, which results in certain kinds of people being able to buy into google and making them enforce certain kinds of filters.

Seeing this is already happening after such a short time on wallstreet, I can see google going down the drain if to much of these filters are put up.

Good thing the search pages show that something is removed still. If it didn't we wouldn't even know certain pages existed, which would be something I can't live with and would result in me using another search engine service.

Google shows who requested the removal of content in these links, so you have a rather good idea on what to look for to find out what is on the page that was removed.

Thanks, Sanc' - I used dogplie years ago, but have gotten so used to Google now.

On the other hand, Google ain't what it used to be, all these annoying paid links and now censorship.

I'll give dogpile another try...
