Are you really trying to say that at some point in the future 1+1 will equal a value other than 2?

To be honest, it is very difficult for me to translate my internal views on this topic into written words that others can understand. But I will try...

1+1=2 is a mathematical expression. Mathematics is a type of language. Languages are meaningless without a subject that understands the language. You have been conditioned through the language of mathematics to comprehend that 1+1=2, but there is no way to prove it is objectively true without self-referencing the language of mathematics.

Do you understand what I am attempting to demonstrate?

I understand what you are saying, I just don't agree with it.

No matter what symbols one may use in the future to express 1+1 = 2, it does not change the truth of it.

No action is better or worse than the other, it is only what is.

Really. So you flip a coin for every choice you make?

You're 100% right.

Opinions = beliefs. Stories we tell ourselves.

They're just thoughts in your head.

And they cause all of the human emotional suffering and conflict in the world.

The solution isn't eliminating stories we tell ourselves. It's being aware of what are stories, and what are facts.

Not the opinions, necessarily. It's what ever gives us the strength to believe (some stubbornly) that our opinions are valid and matter to the populace in general. That's the root of all evil, what ever causes that.

Is it pride? What allows us that?

No, I do not rely on chance. I gather all available facts before I am able to make a decision. If no facts are available then I go and find some rather than going with my gut.

Why? I thought no action is better or worse than another.

Why gather evidence if it is no better or worse than guessing or gut feelings?

I did not say that my way is better or worse than any other way. You asked me if I made decisions based upon chance. My response was no, I base them upon facts.

Your point is?

Well you said no action was better or worse than another. Deciding and decision making is an action.

So I’m asking why you act according to evidence and reason as opposed to gut feelings if neither of these is better or worse than each other?

I personally follow the scientific method to explore, discover and understand the universe through the use of logic and reasoning whether that be abstract, direct or deductive. The reason I choose this path is there can be no argument against the truth of empirical evidence, this is especially true if it also stacks up along side already well founded mathematics.

However, if you or anyone else decided to make their decisions based upon the toss of a coin then that is entirely up to them... there is no judgement to make on my part.

This is why I state my way is no better or worse than any others choice of direction.

Do you follow?

Can you provide an example of a concrete objective truth in Life? (One that does not rely on abstract mathematical expressions).

Sure.

Pick any of the following: -

1. Humans have DNA

2. Trees are Plants

3. The Earth is the 3rd Planet from the sun in our solar system.

4. At this time, Maine is the closest U.S. state to Africa.

5. The boiling point of pure uncontaminated water is 100°C or 212° F at 1 atmosphere of pressure (sea level).

6. Butterflies used to be Caterpillars.

7. The tides of the earths oceans and seas are caused by gravitational forces due to the orbit of the moon.

8. The sun is a Star

Need I go on???
