Furthermore, it was the king who burned the rolls. It says so 3 different times :

22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

23 And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

The king sat in the winterhouse. The fire was burning before the him. Jehudi read three or four leaves, and then he (the king) cast it into the fire that was burning before him.

25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll: but he would not hear them.

28 Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.

This is God speaking here. He says that the king burned the roll. It even says that the princes begged him not to! Good night!

Then the OP is like the king, burning verses he doesn't like.

Man, if it were up to some people we would only have half of Acts, half of Romans, 1 Corinthians, maybe Timothy, certainly not Hebrews, only parts of Revelation and people saying "what the heck is Thessalonians". Since they don't want 3/4 of the OT, we will be left with Psalm 23, a few from Proverbs and none of Kings and Chronicles. Maybe they might include Exodus if they are generous.

Seems to me book burning goes on a lot with some people and not just kings.

Then those others who don't like Paul, the Bible would only be the Gospels, maybe a little bit of Revelation and they never quote Peter, but sometimes quote James. I never see them quoting Jude or Philemon, so those are out to. What are we left with?

A Bible for Paulines, a Bible for Peterists and a Bible for the rest. Book burning, terrible idea. The OP just burned Jeremiah.

Disraeli is correct. You are in error.

Jeremiah 36:23 says:

"Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll, the king cut them off with a scribe's knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire." (NIV)

"Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king took a knife and cut off that section of the scroll. He then threw it into the fire, section by section, until the whole scroll was burned up." (NLT)

"As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a knife and throw them into the fire in the fire pot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the fire pot." (ESV)

"When Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with a scribe's knife and threw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier." (NASB)

"As Jehudi would read three or four columns, the king would cut it with a scribe's knife and throw it into the fire which was in the stove, until all the scroll was burned in the fire in the stove." (ISV)

All these translations say the king cut the scroll and the king threw it into the fire. In all the other translations that say "he" rather than "the king", "the king" is implied because of the flow of grammar from the preceding verse, which is talking about the king.

Then at verse 27 God tells Jeremiah, "Take again another scroll and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah burned.…" (Jer 36:27)

Even God Himself is telling us that it was the king who burned the scroll.

God then tells Jeremiah to write all the former words from the first scroll that was burned (by the king) onto a new scroll, AND TO ADD THE WORDS God gives Jeremiah at verses 29 through 31. So the new scroll has the words that were on the first scroll, plus the words God gives Jeremiah to add in verses 29 through 31.

Which is exactly what we are told Jeremiah does in verse 32.
