At least he showed up!

Where was Obama?

The only reason he showed up was to work this tragedy to his advantage. Benny is a firm believer in the old saying never let a good tragedy go to waste.

But do pray tell why Abbas was there?

He is out of step, a little forward of the others there by a step of two.

Because France invited him because France didn't even want Benny at the march. France told Israel that if Benny attended the march then they would invite Abbas to the march.
Hollande asked Netanyahu not to attend Paris memorial march

Audibert explained that Hollande wanted the event to focus on demonstrating solidarity with France, and to avoid anything liable to divert attention to other controversial issues, like Jewish-Muslim relations or the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Audibert said that Hollande hoped that Netanyahu would understand the difficulties his arrival might pose and would announce that he would not be attending.

The source noted that one of the French concerns - not conveyed to representatives of the Israeli government - was that Netanyahu would take advantage of the event for campaign purposes and make speeches, especially about the Jews of France. Such statements, the Elysee Palace feared, would hurt the demonstration of solidarity the French government was trying to promote as part of dealing with the terror attacks

And that is just what Benny did. Make campaign speeches and tell Jews that France is not safe for them.

Somebody should have told Benny that his hand is supposed to be flat and where's your mustache?

After all, Nentanyahu should have attended seeing how it was an Air France plane that was highjacked and the Jews were separated to be held hostage. That was Operation Thunderbolt.

Now Germany and France are coming to the real terms of what Islamic terrorism really is about, in 1976, they were just four years out of the Munich Olympics tragedy. Germany and France didn't expel terror groups in the 1970s and now it is come to a full head. Netanyahu's brother Yoni was killed during Operation Thunderbolt, but how soon we forget these things.

Nothing has changed since the 1970s but now Germany and France are dealing with it coming back full circle in their faces.

Netanyahu was specifically asked no to come. Because French officials knew damn well that he would do exactly what he did - try to commandeer the attack to the benefit of Israel.

Had Obama gone, you would be snarling about him engaging in a photo op. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't, so why pretend you'd prefer one or the other?

I would prefer to see the President of the US go, no photo op accusation from me. There are times the POTUS needs to do things, especially if he represents the US. To say we are an international community and then not involve himself, that is bad character.

John F. Kennedy said "Ich bin ein Berliner" because he understood his role as POTUS.

I bet, you would be among loudest here if he went and we got someone calculate expense of his trip with security implemented in less then a day preparation. It is interesting that either way you would have material to be 'anti-Obama', witch I personally have no problem with, but for real, it was his decision to make, and no big deal if he did not go.

I have sense you feel different and it is a big deal...

As for OP - use of tragedy for personal goals - nothing new...
