The ear is scarred, but makes for a GREAT party conversation. LOL

I'd love to recommend prescription Ambien because it works. But I cannot because I am one of those people who would black out on it. I'd take it and be wide awake, totally stoned out my mind, and not remember a bit of it the next day. One day I might share the tale of how my last dance with Ambien ended up with my right ear ripped in half and me laughing hysterically about it - much to my ex-girlfriends exceptionally angry dismay.

Now I'm thinking back to 2003 trying to remember if I ever got yelled at by the ex for peeing in anything. LOL
Of course, being the responsible adult that I am, I'd forget that I took my Ambien after about fifteen minutes, so I'd remind myself to take my Ambien... and then forget. The ex started holding onto the pills but on the first night, after about two hours, she simply threw the bottle at me.
Oh and it also didn't help that I apparently like to wash the Ambien down with Crown and Coke.
Yup... That's why when people say "You seem so smart!" I counter with "Only on the surface...."

The story of my life
For me a huge part of the issue is that thinking about the insomnia feeds into the insomnia. The more you think about it, the worse it gets, so the more you think about it, so the worse it gets.... ad infinitum.
My advice? Take a nice long, hot, shower or bath ( personal preference ) and focus upon thinking about nothing. Relax and accept it - you've got insomnia. Big deal. Look at it like it's just a speed bump and not a mountain.
If that fails, try watching a documentary about something that barely interests you. That puts me to sleep every time.

True Story:
Right after I got married, I discovered that my husband would rather pee in a milk jug rather than walk upstairs to the bathroom.
It took me about two weeks to discover that he was putting them under the kitchen SINK!
It has never happened since. I kind of freaked out....rightly so!
Crown and coke is enough all in it's own. That, mixed with ambien...I can't even imagine.

Melatonin works for me as well, as long as I remember to take it at a decent hour.
I'm definitely going to look into melatonin.
What do you consider a decent hour?

Well it depends on how early or late I want to get up in the morning. Sometimes it takes a while for it to kick in, so experiment and see what works best for you.
