a reply to:
Kandinsky
It does seem a mammoth task doesn't it Kandinsky, almost impossible perhaps.
I wouldn't have thought switching, planting and removing and generally playing around with the historical record would be an easy thing to do, for
many of the reasons you mention...but IF we're talking about the greatest secret ever maintained by Human beings, i'm sure it would have been done if
they had desired to do it.
There is very little that is impossible with limitless resources in both talented personnel, money and probably most importantly authority, influence
and unimpeded access.
I think you're right about the difficulties in managing a switch on this scale, but think you've overestimated the numbers of people who would need to
be involved in the operation...very few people in actuality would be required to be 'in on it', small(ish) specialist teams would do the legwork, and
most civilians at the sites of interest would be told to leave the lab, library, records dept. and so on, and be told 'Government business - leave
your workstations and follow the sergeant / MP outside'...or 'National security Madam / Sir, sign this official secrets act, if you break this oath,
you will be spending the rest of your life in Federal prison and your families will be farmed out to various - very carefully selected - foster
homes..sign here please' Or words to that effect i'd imagine.
There are thousands of scenarios where people could be hoodwinked like this and never know what had been done to their University archives, patents
library docs, or other scientific or historical document caches.
They can use variations of the above examples...'Government authority' would probably be used most, although the threats of loss of position / grants
/ liberty / family / quality of life / death could be rolled out to those that question or buck that authority, or plain old fashioned bribery with
promotions to department heads, increased budgets, eminent corporate contracts and so on would also be used to effect cooperation and silence.
And let's not forget, this would have been soon after WW2, or in the early cold war and so, most people when told to keep their mouths shut and do
what they are told, would do so without question, especially when faced with Official secrecy acts and National security ID's, official blokes in
Uniform etc.
Most of the records from those early days, will be digitised or placed on microfiche - easy to duplicate and insert alterations and replace the entire
sheet...this wouldn't need to be done everywhere, in every University or other place likely to hold these records, only the more prominent
institutions need to be switched...the other places holding these records can simply suffer a 'break in by vandals', a fire, the records simply
damaged in an 'accident' or outright stolen...then the prominent institute is contacted by the place that had their record destroyed, asking for a
copy to be made so they can replace their now missing or damaged version...of course, they will all get copies of the doctored version and nobody is
any the wiser, all the information on each copy will tally as they are all copies of the dodgy version and when enough institutions have the same copy
and comparisons are made, they will all match and the information becomes concrete authentic.
Not easy for the likes of you and I, but for a powerful, resourceful and determined Government with the greatest secret in the history of Humankind to
keep?
Probably bread and butter operations for certain specialist agencies.
I know you know i'm not saying this happened Kandinsky, but in case others feel i'm saying this absolutely went down like this, i'm not, this is only
one possible scenario, and might be accurate or very, very wide of the mark. Either way, i am saying it is entirely possible given the reasons
outlined.
Or, as you say, the guy could be lying.
He can't be that hard to find can he? I saw your post about tracing him and coming up short, but has anyone contacted Greer and his outfit to fill in
the blanks of identity, work history and so on?
