Can someone explain what a 1 x 1 networking tool is?

Can't find understandable info for this simple question. Hope the question isn't stupid, but as "they" say......

So, is it something that allows only a closed group of people or businesses to connect and share info, and why would this tool be needed when the group could simply use a website on the internet?

it is a single input single out wifi ie base/ router/ transmitter has one antenna, receiver/card has one. that kinda a simple and not full explanation of it.
also some mimo's have them has to do with power usage, and switches only use one input and one output.

ETA: here this might help a little. it's a manul for one called CM -Gl-EM1x1-VO1-1330329. it' opens a pdf and you want to go to page five.

So, why would a group of several dozen people/corporations need this tool as opposed to simply connecting via a website on the internet and/or email?

Another s.q.....Would there be more or less concern for data security among those on the closed network?

OK. One more s.q.

If someone registered with a group that has a particular agenda and was told they would be given this 1 x 1 networking tool upon said registration in order to communicate, browse, connect, etc. with the rest of the group, is that benign or suspect? In other words, would your communications and other activity among group members be MORE or LESS secure from 1) outsiders of the network and, 2) those running the agenda?

i hope this makes sense, sounds like they are trying to run a VPN on 1x1 as a gateway and maybe somehow keeping it closed.
i guess a 1x1 on a closed network might make a little more sucure, can't really say for sure.

1x1 means 1 transmit antennae and 1 receive antennae, with each antennae receiving a particular channel.

You then get 2x2 and 3x3 antennae

I was actually going somewhere with this thread till the mods moved it to the Computer Help forum. I wanted to understand the technology, limitations, advantages, and possible reasons for an organization providing this tool for those registering with their group before I proceeded. Oh, well. Any further input regarding this or your personal thoughts on the possible whys of said provision would be appreciated. Then, I may start a new thread on where I was going with this.

1x1 one means the box is 1 foot by 1 foot lol. Point an Access Point(AP) at another AP and connect them up via a VPN as someone else already explained. There is no such thing as a 1x1 network. Point to Point is what they meant.
As to the question of security: Anything over the air is insecure, no question about it. It can be hacked and you can bet the NSA's laws about max encryption strength allowable by law is there for their benefit not yours.
