I wonder if you're getting a 404, or an actual failure to respond from the server.
If you're getting a 404... Then there's something terribly wrong at Google and someone just got fired.
If you're not actually connecting to the server, but are just getting an error page that your browser generates, then you have DNS problems.
Do this:
Hold down your Windows key ( between Ctrl & Alt ) and press R - this opens up the 'Run' dialog.
Type in 'cmd' - this opens a command prompt.
Type 'ping www.gmail.com' and press enter - this attempts to look up gmail's IP and query the echo service at that IP.
If the above 'ping' returns 'Could not find the host', then you have a DNS issue. If it starts handing back response times, then you either have a
browser issue, or again... someone at Google is getting fired.
Depending on your results I should be able to help you out of the woods.
