Love Letter

The shine of the moon, on a lake so clear.
I come to this spot, each and every year.

To see the sky turn bright, with the stars up high.
I still remember your face, that day we said goodbye.

I sit alone tonight, with the letter you gave me.
I never opened it up, to see what it could be.

You gave it to me, when we said goodbye.
You just stood up and left, never telling me why.

It’s been ten years now, I haven’t opened it yet.
I keep thinking of that day, the day we first met.

“We’ll meet up again, the year after this.”
You told me back then, after giving me a kiss.

I wait and I wait, year after year.
I’m awaiting your return, are you coming, my dear?

The sky turns dark, as a cloud shadows the moon.
Only a few minutes left, I’ll be leaving soon.

The time has come, to stand up and go.
I miss you my darling, I do miss you so.

Tears fill my eyes, as I open the letter.
“Goodbye my love, forever and ever.”

When I write the poems, I hardly know what it will turn out be be, when I start, but as I go on, the poem starts writing itself in a way, and in the end, even I am surprised. Does this happen to you too? Or is it just me?
