I know that is not what you said, but that is what this is implying.
And you already said it, if you don't have money and get a good lawyer, you are probably going to jail.
Who lives in higher poverty? Black people or white
Who can't fight trumped up charges when a public defender would rather just make a deal with DA to get you to plea?

Yes it is profiling, cause you are now assuming that person is going to commit a crime.
Guilty until proven innocent is not the way this works.

I don't like the idea of treating people like a hunter would treat his/her prey.

It does sound bad when you put it in those terms.

What about the residents of these areas. Most want more of a Police presence.

Maybe we need a change in the Court System. Get these people lawyers.

Wrongly accused has to be the worst.

Alright, Blacks commit most of the violent crimes. So, Cops watch Black folks.

And that is called stereotyping and stereotyping is just another form of discrimination. If you have committed no crime then the police have no right to watch you.

There is a simple way to stop being targeted.

No there isn't unless you can find a way to change the color of your skin.

It's profiling to watch the group of people committing a third of the violent crimes ?

I would call that good Police work.

We miss stop and frisk here in NYC. Those of us with sense at least.

I'm Latino, before anyone jumps the gun. Pun intended.

"Oh, you just robbed a store? You just raped someone? You just stabbed that guy? Well since you're white, I'm gonna let you go on home and think about what you did. Don't let me catch you again!"

It doesn't work that way. Cops don't get a call about a robbery or a shooting and say to themselves, "Oh, well the guy is white... I guess we just won't show up to the call. We'll just ignore it and wait for the suspect to be black."
If a higher proportion of blacks are arrested for violent crimes, then a higher proportion of blacks have committed violent crimes.
Sorry, but it's common sense.

Yes when it is not being broke down to the ridiculous, a very common sales tactic, it does sound bad.

IDK about people asking for an increased force, I won't say it doesn't happen, but I bet it isn't the people that are being stereotyped asking for it.

We can agree here, 100%.
Shouldn't be a massive financial burden to get quality defense that isn't looking to sell you up river cause they have a huge work load

so would i.
go where the crimes are.

same as all the dui check points on the 4th of july and memorial day

the cops know there are lots of people driving drunk those nights so those are the nights they set up a check. makes sense.

if black males are committing more crime in a given area than white females, then they should probably worry less about the white female.

i dont see the problem.

only 1 page and already excuses abound.

--when you have nothing to lose...when you are poor you live by the law of the jungle--
yeah, thats better than working hard to get what you want....eh, just steal it.
its fine. im poor

what a crock

There's nothing sensible about S&P.
You can lower crime rates with better police training and community cooperation.
I'm in Chicago and a law like that would never pass.

Nothing sensible about pulling illegal guns and drugs off our streets?

That's a first.

As a police officer, it's more effective to post up to make your presence known not wait for s*** to happen. Cops gain respect by being in the community.

You can't deny the Stats...

But, if Cops are just scooping people up because they are Black. Something must be done.

In my experience I have never seen Cops do that.

But, I can only go by my experience.

Taking illegal guns off the street using illegal search & seizure is sensible? Criminals must be smarter in Chicago

I don't. But it was reinstated and the judge that banned it was removed.

The mere presence of a Police Officer will straighten me right up.

Does it not work the same way in the Black Community?

i agree.
allow yourself to be seen.
then keep an eye on the area with the most crime and keep an eye on the people that commit the most crime.
seems reasonable to me

Yep, got it. The best cops are the ones that are talking gangbangers out of shooting rivals because it might hit a little kid but the ones that talk mess about how they're going to eventually arrest you obviously aren't liked.

The real criminals aren't walking around with guns and drugs, hence why I think frisking is ineffective. While you're harassing would be offenders, real bad guys are discreetly doing what they do. Street level Intel can help cops predict where the next major crime will be.

Parents need to teach kids respect for everyone and cops should go to schools twice a year in plain clothes.

Last I checked, it was called reasonable doubt. That same reasonable doubt led to a decrease in crime where I live, meaning I could use the subway and not worry for my well being.

All these crap protests demanding less police will only serve those in low income communities.

I own a home, my wife and I both work and pay lots of taxes. Trust me, I wouldn't want less police around me.

And that's how profiling turned into harassment. I'm so constitutional we won't agree. I'm gonna say everyone should've opted to carry guns instead of giving up constitional rights.
