We see Christ in agony,

We see passive Buddha,
restrained and meditation,

We see Christ scourged and beaten,
bloody and bruised,
making reparation for our lusts
and unrestrained passions.

We hear of Mohamed's glory
in leading and fighting,
a king over his people
with a tinsel crown.

We see Christ Jesus
crowned with thorns and mockery,
weak and defenseless,
in submission like a sacrificed lamb.
the glory of Heaven,
receiving the punishment of the world's cruelty.

We speak to people with hardships and pains,
complaining of diseases and palsies,
who mock God for the gift of Life He gives.

We follow the cross carrying Christ,
conscious of all pain,
bearing the Cross of all crosses,
to be our beacon of strength.

We are weak.

Many worship their own ego,
their skill,
their money,
their cars,
their intellect,
their example,
their future and their past.

We worship Christ crucified,
as the sinners who crucified Him,
Beings forgiven in his first last word.
We are the thieves,
who steal boldly the paradise,
which he won for us,
suffering as man and as God.

Forgive me, but I'm confused. I thought you worshiped a risen and living Christ no longer on the cross. Not a crucified Christ. Isn't the gospel(good news), that he is risen, and you have reconciliation to god through his sacrifice?
1 Corinthians 15

17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! 18 Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.

If you're still worshiping a crucified Christ, then you've missed the risen one.

Even after he is raised from the dead, he is still "the one who was crucified" (as an event in his past).
For Paul, the fact that he had been crucified is theologically important. E.g Galatians ch2 v20
It is the combination of crucifixion and resurrection that makes the theology of Christ, not either event on its own.

It isn't that I don't understand the theology. This was a pet peeve of mine back in the day, and I guess it still is. The crucifixion is important to Christians, and not to be forgotten and understood. But it should never overshadow the resurrection. There are sects of Christianity who seem to want to leave him on the cross and powerless, rather than risen and lord.

I know. Why do I care? I'm an atheist now. Because if you're going to be a Christian, you should at least understand all the good news. Not get stuck on just part of it. "You" in general. Not you specifically.

OK, true enough.
The balance is needed overall, and this particular thread chose only to present one aspect of it.
"When I survey the wondrous cross" needs to be combined with "Hail thee, festival day!", and we may get the second half of the picture another time.

Christ's destiny indeed needed the Resurrection,

In this thread the need was to talk about the 'Sign of Contradiction', that Jesus is and the big difference between recognizing God and recognizing wise men.
