There is an awesome documentary called TechnoCalyps where all of the top scientists in this field hash out these various arguments/debates on these subjects. It seems to really come down to what your mindset and worldview is.

But somewhat telling is the fact the names of some of this series are 'Preparing for the Singularity' and 'The Digital Messiah'.

So when I look at how protiens are manufactured i imagine if we mastered this biotechnology we could essentially engineer anything even biological computers!
