Eric Garner’s oldest daughter has shown no signs of recovery — still unable to breathe on her own after suffering a heart attack, her family said on Monday.
Erica Garner, 27, had a heart attack on Saturday night. She was on life-support in the intensive care unit of a Brooklyn hospital late Monday.
Garner has become an activist since her father’s death in 2014. She is a mother of two after giving birth to a boy in August. She named him after her father.
Rev. Al Sharpton, speaking during a charity event at National Action Network headquarters in Harlem with Mayor de Blasio, called on the public to keep Erica Garner in their prayers.
“I want everyone to pray for Erica Snipes Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, who had a heart attack,” he said, adding that he is in close contact with Esaw Snipes. “I've just left the hospital and prayed with her, and I ask for all your prayers for Erica.”
Eric Garner, 43, died on July 17, 2014 when NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo placed him in a banned chokehold on Staten Island. A grand jury decided not to charge Pantaleo, who remains on the force.
