At our point, in the evolution of man, is it foolish to think we can achieve world peace? We like to think that we are so far removed from the animal world, but are we really? Sure, we are definitely more advanced, in some aspects, but it seems we have so much farther yet to go. Until we learn to master our emotions, our primitive brain, will we ever really be that far from the animal world? Do we need to essentially, master or lose that part of our mind/brain if we are ever to truly rise above emotions, such as anger and fear, and achieve world peace? Do we need to take another step before we can really expect true peace?

What you are asking is difficult to predict. It is uncertain enough if one person will master their emotions and behave at peace with their neighbor, but it becomes astronomically unpredictable in the case of the world at large. In the past, there were docile civilizations who lived in peace with one another. You have to wonder if that was our natural state and we have evolved into something hideous or perhaps eons ago people became docile because they learned lessons from some tragedy in the world. I think it would take catastrophe on a global scale to teach mankind to live in peace again, considering many people are so hard headed when it comes to peaceable social skills. The Bible (whether you believe in it or not) has a lot of verses dealing with common sense, especially in the Old Testament. The Bible mentions how we should be slow to anger, which is a result of how much patience and empathy we have. Sadly, people today are easy to agitate and have seemingly been taught only one way to deal with things, and that is; an eye for an eye. Of course the problem lies in whenever two or more people have a difference and become hostile to one another. It takes two parties to have a war, but only one to end it, and I am not talking about the winner by might.

I think that world peace had by man cannot come about unless mankind changes sincerely on the inside. When and how this will happen - your guess is as good as mine, but perhaps that is the next step in our evolution. Maybe it is a spiritual or supernatural event that is scheduled to occur at some pivotal point in the future, when we are ripe.

i believe it is possible, but it wouldn't be easy and it wouldn't be quick.

for those that believe we are of a higher plane than animals, sorry, i disagree. we are animals, all of us, and when we finally come to that understanding, we will finally understand what it is to be alive here on this island in the middle of nowhere with no deity hovering over us and no place to go when we die where we'll live forever in another form. this is it, this is all. when we understand all those things, we will be able to live in peace with each other, for the most part. there will always be some sort of animal heirarchy, there will always be violence, there will always be killing, but it will be less for the reasons we do it today and more out of necessity as it is in the animal world.

yeah, yeah, i hear ya. don't wanna go back tribal. neither do i. don't worry, it won't happen any time soon. the population of this great planet would have to be nearly decimated before it could even become a possibility.

oh, and don't think i am advocating it either, i would much rather just let this world move in much the same way it has moved, albeit with a few minor changes. one, for the US to stop. stop needing to be the global police. i understand why we had to do some of the things we had to do, but when it's over, we need to take care of home. we need to expell all those people who do not belong here and we need to stop giving so much money away to the rest of the world where it isn't welcomed and we need to take care of the problems we have here at home. then, when we have done the necessary repairs and renovations, we can open up to the world again in such a way as will foster a caring attitude and a set of sturdy relationships with countries from all parts of the world under all beliefs systems and politics, except, of course, those that are detrimental to the human race as a whole, and become the light again, that the world misses. light the torch again. from out of the darkness and into the light.

If you use the past as an indicator (really what else can you use) as to the happenings of the future then I would be forced to say No. Man is doomed to succum to his own selfish desires.

With the people we have in power world peace is impossible.

World peace will only be possible when the world and in particular the World's leaders realize that everything dosen't come down to us against them.We can still have our nationalities, our religions, our beliefs and our own opinions, but until we stop thinking that we are better than they are,or that our way is better. Peace cannot and will not be achieved.

As long as humans are in charge, I would have to say no, it is not possible. As long as there is jealousy, there will be no true peace I'm afraid. Man by his very nature wants what the next person has, and will take it if he can't get it. Watch a toddler who has not yet learned of war, hate, or prejudice, and watch how they will take what the other child has, at times resorting to hitting. When grown up, they will continue to do the same thing, the only difference is the size of the toys, and the means used to aquire their goals.

With Koffi Annan heading the UN, Jacques Chirac leading France, Schroeder in Germany, and many others, I agree with you.

Thank God, we have Bush leading the U.S.. While we will never have world peace, having someone who will protect the U.S. against terrorist, socialist, and liberals is the best I can hope for!
