A COURT in Sicily has sentenced Forza Italia senator Marcello Dell'Utri, a key political aide and confidant of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, to nine years in jail for associating with the Mafia, the ANSA news agency reported.

The judgement comes a day after Berlusconi himself was cleared of bribing judges after a long running corruption trial.
