It would be nearly criminal to not suggest The Secret World when this particular question is asked on this particular site.

It's really quite amazing and the areas are so immersive. Heavy on zombie-like creatures in the first chapters. The tech tree is awesome. Crafting is a little complicated, but cool. Instances are fun and it's easy to find a group for it. The game has a heavy lean toward role-play and they do a lot of extras for it. There are areas/creatures you will not love running into a lot, but it's not a bad thing. I don't know if they've nerfed it, but some quests you have to go online to seek out the answers including one where you have to learn morse code a little!

One of my favorite aspects are the NPCs and their responses. A lot of thought and humor went into creating that.
Take this game slowly and enjoy it's environment instead of rushing to the top level.

I mean - you can play Illuminati!

Hvae you tried DOTA2 ? I'm not a fan I prefer my FPS
However It's the number 2 game on steam, and it's free ! Just go ahead and download steam, then search DOTA2.

P.S Steam is great, there's always %75 - %25 discounts on popular titles. You're sure to find something you love there.

I played Rift for awhile. It is free with an option to pay and receive some perks. It wasn't bad but queuing for instances took forever. Just search for Rift and download the client.

What do you mean by pulled the plug? I used to play that game as well, in fact I hopped on about a week or two ago to see if old friends still sailed around. I live in North America. I recall earlier this year they switched to different servers and you had to transfer your account if you wanted to keep your same characters. I didn't really enjoy the game, other than the sailing aspect. Most of the time I would play was after a few beers and sea shanties. It is a grind fest.

The only other MMO I played was EvE Online. Which has a steep learning curve and is extremely epic. Historic as well. One of the largest PvP battles in gaming history (so I heard) took place. 1700+ people were involved in combat that lasted at least twenty-four hours. A player named Vile Rat, who was a diplomat for one of the largest and most untrustworthy alliances in the game (Goonswarm) was Sean Smith. One of the men killed in Benghazi. Personally, when I played, my thing was scamming noobs and suicide ganking miners!

Cool thing about EvE is you can pay for your sub with in game currency. A previous poster said within three months. You can do it in a couple days, or hours though. Depending on the things you're willing to do of course.

From that huge battle:

Warlords of Draenor is the newest World of Warcraft expansion. Maybe try giving that a try. I am a avid WoW player and have been playing since launch, which was 10 years ago.

I'm sure you have played WoW before...?

I sincerely recommend ArcheAge. My first MMORPG ever was Linaege 2 (and it's still my favourite mmorpg of all time), and this game looks like the next best thing. I haven't played it yet because of lack of time, but I honestly wish I had the time to play it.

Nice! Glad you were able to get back in.

As for me I don't see myself getting back on any time soon.

The grind man! The griiiind!! It's too much.

But if I do ever get back on you can find me under the name of...

Davos Seaworth.

Try Runescape if you haven't played it.

I've been borderline addicted since 2003.
