This is the stuff I do not understand. If they whole family was living in the same apartment as him, what happened to him. If they caught Ebola, and it was cured, you think they would be hugging the President. If they never got Ebola, you think they would be the front page of why Ebola fears are groundless.

All I have seen in the news is that they want a pound of flesh for Duncan dying.

Answer:

Many people's fears weren't realized, not even remotely; a travel ban was never needed to declare America temporarily Ebola free. It appears that Barack Obama wasn't in collusion with mad Congolese scientists to create a deadly strain of Ebola. The CDC protocols worked and Chris Christie can be seen through a deli window with a mustard stain on his shirt.

Well apparently they're still alive because they're suing the hospital....and they probably don't want to be in the media until it's over via their attorney.

That's kind of the point. If they never got it, why wasn't that always brought up? Is the family that is getting money, all the same members who lived with him? Would the money go to the fiancé or the blood family?

It would seem that they would be very valuable, individually and as a family.

Since they lived with him and was in close and intimate contact with him through all stages of his illness, except at his death, their exposure should allow all of them to have had enough exposure to cook up a nice conglomeration of antibodies or some may even have some natural immunities. Either way, it is very possible that their blood may be the cure.

I have been wondering how they have managed to completely escape the radar. That only seems to happen when it benefits just the right people.

The money has been awarded to Duncan's parents and 4 children. ( 2 daughters in west Africa where he caught Ebola, one daughter in high school in North Carolina,...and one son with his fiancé)...The fiancé is not part of the settlement. But they do have a child together, and that child is getting money.

Cha-ching. Add the book deal, too.

They are being sequestered from other money grubbers until they can be wrung for every penny they're worth.

Then we'll hear about how the lawyers and the publicists took it all.

By then the Duncans will wish they had just died from Ebola.

you sure about this? like 100%? ( not talking about the Obama stuff just the actual severity at the moment)

its nothing to do with your new ebola tzar ordering a media blackout of potential cases?

just because you cant see or hear something doesn't mean its not happening.

So does anyone have an actual, valid answer to the OP's question? With links, etc?

The answer to the original poster’s question is quite simple.

Thomas Eric Duncan knew full well that he was infected with the Ebola virus when he made his way into the United States of America – if he didn’t know for sure, then he highly suspected it since he had been caring for an infected woman just prior to his arrival into the country. His family didn’t get the virus because they had been forewarned by Mr. Duncan that he suspected he was contagious, or at the very least believed the virus was incubating inside of him.

From that point he stayed away from his family members until his symptoms began to rear their ugly heads. He went to the hospital, told them where he had been. Because of the negligence of the hospital he was sent home.

The family continued to stay away from him while his condition deteriorated, called an ambulance when he got critical, and stayed away as he died.

The family hasn’t been mentioned because of several suspected reasons: The CDC wants to silence information about the current Ebola outbreak, the family is not sick and therefore of no interest to the media, etc.

Here is a news report:
Quarantine ends for Dallas family of Ebola victim Thomas Duncan as they hope to move on from devastating 3 weeks

The report was dated Oct 20th. Of coarse the fear mongers here on ATS said it was staged and continued on the we are all going to die and the government is lying to us rant, but I digress...

The thing is, if his family didn't get sick, even though they were SHARING A HOUSE with him, sharing food, and probably sharing a bathroom, how did the nurse get sick, who had protective gear on (granted, it was not complete)?? She apparently got it from taking off the clothing, by just touching a surface which had been touched by this man, and the family didn't get it?? Something isn't right, that's obvious.

Ebola gets more and more contagious as you get sicker. You are the most contagious at death. There were protocol problems at the hospital in Dallas and both nurses worked with him at or close to death.

NY Daily News
They are healthy and they are wealthier.
They sued and the hospital settled out of court.

a reply to: NightSkyeB4Dawn

Duncan arrived in the US on Sept. 20. He went to the hospital with the beginning symptoms of Ebola on the 25 and was finally admitted to the hospital on the 28th. After that any contact with his family was through protective gear not direct. It's quite apparent that contagion grows with the severity of the symptoms since no one he was in contact with before he was admitted ever got sick.
The two nurses were administering to him while he was at his sickest and were inadequately protected.
A second proof of this fact is that Amber Vinson traveled with a fever at the onset of her infection and no one she was in contact with during that trip got sick either.
So it's safe to say that the information given out by health officials that Ebola is not contagious when there are no symptoms are true and it also seems safe to say that while symptoms are mild it is also hard to get it and lastly that the longer the disease progresses the more contagious it becomes.

The settlement is going to his parents and children. A fiancee is not a relative. Engagement is an agreement to marriage but is not marriage. So basically she was a girlfriend only.ba reply to: thinline

They cared for him at his most contagious stage and were inadequately protected. His family was with him at early onset when the virus had apparently not replicated enough to be shed copiously.
The nurses handled his body fluids while he was in the end stage. Their open necks were contaminated and that's right next to the face with all its entrances to the body.
