There is only one thing, and ONE thing only, that makes somebody an atheist. A lack of belief in a God. The term atheist is widely misunderstood. Absolutely no faith is involved in being an atheist. There is no belief system that is part of being an atheist. It is not a religion. It's simply the word used to describe people who don't believe in a God or Goddess because any evidence presented by those who make the claim that there is one, falls short of being proof. No, presuppositions and apologetic arguments don't qualify as proof. There is no "atheistic worldview", there are of course various views on various things held by atheists. Whether or not those things require faith of some sort would depend on what they are. The same can be said about the foundation of those beliefs.

If you want to talk about it further perhaps bump one of your threads on the subject. Just so we don't derail this thread and the OP's expressed desires.

I mean as a Christian brother I think you are starting on the wrong end of things.

1 peter 3:15 tells us to Sanctify Christ in our hearts.

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

The beginning of knowledge is fear of the Lord without this a person has no logical foundation for believing they can "know" anything.

Romans 14:1
As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.

We are not here to argue over what caused there to be something rather than nothing or whether we evolved from apes or not. We are here because you and I have a truth about reality. Humans are broken hardware. None of us are righteous. We need a Savior, and that Savior is Christ.

Of course there is an atheistic world view. A world view is the way a person thinks about the world. Atheist are grounded to a naturalistic/reductionistic view of reality, there is no way around that, but yes we shouldn't derail the thread.

The fear of God. Thats something I never quite understood until. I prayed for a few weeks or so to God asking Him what the prophets always meant when they spoke of the fear of God. I told him that I understood(at least partially) as to what He is capable of, but I knew that He loved me so why fear? I was driving in my car from my house to work which is about 45 minutes. As I was on my way to work God decided to enlighten me a little . I knew immediately what was happening and why it was happening it was the strangest thing. I began to sob as I was driving down the road. My breath got really short and fast as God expressed a mere fraction of his power to me. My body felt as though it was going to be ripped apart by what was growing in me. The feeling eventually got so intense that I was begging God to only show me that much and no more. I kept telling him if he showed me anymore I would surely die, and I truly do believe I would have.

I'd be afraid to tell you about events in my life that I see as a blessing, because you only see punishment.

I understand you have been hurt before (looks like it) but you don't know I will be like you say I will be you don't even know me. Fear is preventing you from taking a chance.

Why not just share if you want. No body is here to judge but only to learn.

Really do you know me at all that you don't want to share?
Is it because I'm a (condemming, judgemental, hypocrytical, superiority complex, intollerent, terrorist Christian?

Funny how I'm judged on predujice alone and not on the merits of my unique kind, loving, generous, humble, sincere, loyal and creative heart. I thought only christiand did that?

Please, please, please, please share your story with us

Be brave thanks! You can do it!

"Thank you for sharing and good luck in your business."

No problem mate glad to have been of some service.

"If I might add: I see a lot in your text that happened to shake your faith in Jesus and because of it you chose to put your faith in athiesm."

I'm not an atheist i just don't think Christianity interpretation of our creator or creators holds any weight. To be frank I find it to be self-serving and nothing more than a collection of control constructs designed to keep in place the status quo and essentially retard humanity's ability to think freely. All this do that or do this or God will spank you in the next life seems rather at odds with the all singing all dancing all loving God portrayed in the new testament.

As to what shook my belief in Christianity I would have to say that would be common sense and the ability to reason. Essentially i became tired of Organised religion attempting to urinate in my pocket and then tell me its raining.

"I will be analizing your data carefully to add to the conclusions of my research. I'm not knocking you. You can believe what you want to believe I believe its between you and (in your case no one?)"

As I said im not an atheist. I just refuse to believe in a book that claims to contain the word of God yet was written by Man with all his fallibilities at play.

"I wish you jubilation through your life and salvation and peace in the afterlife (if such a thing exists)"

Same to you buddy but I hope its not to peaceful or we will be board stupid.

"Thank you for your bravery in sharing I'm sure we will all find in it the things we all look for in everything"

Well Jesus did say "The Kingdom of God is inside you and all around you. Not in buildings of wood and stone. Lift a stone and you will find me. Split a piece of wood and I am there." There is some sense in that statement at least.

So much for freewill and judgement day.

I would counter that all one has to do is observe the world and it's people, it's rulers, the so called 'corrupted'..etc, and you can see this reward/punishment thing, while we are living, is not apparent whatsoever.

Obviously just trying to bring a little levity to the OP, how's this for miraculous? Certainly adheres to the notion that God moves in mysterious ways.

I told you why I didn't feel I could share my stories with you. Because of the way you see God. You have this punishing God... I don't. Everything I would tell you, the greatest blessings of my life, you would not see in the same way. You would think God punishes, when HE doesn't.

Suffering is not punishment. It's a blessing hon. If we get to suffer in this life... we have grown from it. Have you ever looked at wealthy people who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.. and thought - wow, they are missing out on so much joy! Because they ARE!

Life is learned through the downs much more than the ups. I have had both in my life.. and I see the times of hardship as the times I gained the most...

When my daughter died of cancer last year... I got to bring her into this world, and watch her grow and become a young woman, and a mother... and I got to hold her hand when she needed me most.. and I got to tell her when she was scared, that God loved her...

THAT is a blessing... for every moment of her life, short though it was - I was there for her. I got to be her rock when she needed one. And I got to share in her joys. THAT is a blessing.

How many mothers can say they held their daughters hand when they were dying, and got to tell them God loved them? God took her from me... but gave me everything I wanted in that child - and I got to be everything for her that she needed me to be.

I got a disease, a the most painful chronic disease there is, and it wont kill me. I live daily in unimaginable pain... yet.. I learned how to talk to God, and who God really is. Not who men say He is.. but who HE IS. I learned so much then, that I would not trade of day of this... because this is where I met God, and where I became his follower, and a lover of Him. I got to see His strength, and I got to lean on Him.

I learned all about God through pain... not through what people see as happiness.. when everything is wonderful, we forget that God is there... but when we are in pain - it is HIM we lean on.. and His strength we depend because we have done.

Suffering isn't punishment, and I don't believe God has ever punished me. He put me in a position, more times than not.. to know HIM...

And for that I am grateful... because today - I know God to the limit of my ability. HE is more wonderful than anyone can imagine...but I would never have learned all this, without the bad mixed in with the good in life.

I'm not sure if that's the case, at least entirely or in the sense you may think. I will elaborate more if you'd like but to sum it up. The biggest shaker of my faith throughout my life was my analytical mindset, and questioning the Bible and the doctrines of Christianity. Not necessarily the hypocrisy from some of the other church members (I didn't even share all of it lol) or the bull my dad pulled. But actually looking at it from a critical standpoint and realizing, "no that's not possible" or "hey that's contradictory". Things like that, and more.

I did forget to mention in my initial post that when I discovered Scott Johnson, I did feel that God had lead me to him for a reason. But obviously I don't feel that was actually the case anymore. In reality I was just holding on in the back of my mind, not ready to honestly admit that I couldn't find any reasons to believe.

Thanks for your well wishes! I gratefully accept them in the spirit intended! Best wishes to you as well. May the flying spaghetti monster bless your next meal!

OP. Take a look at this old thread by Wildtimes I'm sure you can glean a fair amount of information from the stories in there. Including the OP's own story.

Good luck proving the existence of the xtian god.

There is no proof. There is only faith. If you tithe more, you can buy your sins away and feel better about yourself but there will still be that underlying problem.

Lots of people only complain about the “bad“ stuff and dontake the time to see the lessons that can be lerned. I'm grateful for your amazing strength and the lessons you are learning while also feeling human sorrow for your physical loss and pain.

You are one in a million an I know God will keep showing you more of His facets as you continue to seek Him.
