Take a stand in your local community by filling formal complaints against officers who break the law. Get in touch with your local city council and bring it to their attention.

Organize by getting your friends involved, and their friends and have them collectively file complains about the same incidents. Take responsability for what's happening and start change yourself.

I can't stand police brutality it offends me more then anything and our out of control judicial system needs to be held accountable. I think the best way to hold them accountable is to start by doing what I've proposed above. Then I believe the next step is to utilize the same group to campaign against people running for local office who don't enforce or address the issues brought to them by the members of the community.

Let's start by taking action. I'm going to go ahead and do this myself. I don't know how because I have little to no contact with the police but I want to actively engage myself in local politics.

And this is why it is going to continue to go down hill. No comments and only two flags. Every body complains but when it comes down to putting an effort forward...

Here's why this probably isn't going to happen:

1. No one wants to admit involvement with the police and bring more attention to it.
2. The police know who to target. In most cases, it will be someone who because of their social status, will not be believed
3. Police know exactly how to lie. They do this every day. With the exception of career criminals, most civilians are new to contact.
4. Thanks to people like Nancy Grace and shows like Law and Order, most people falsely believe that all cops are honest and would never purposely harm someone unless of course they "deserved it".

What's needed is a push to investigate public corruption - something that's done at the State and Federal level.

How do you propose to have an impact on that unless you start at the ground level?

Maybe we should start wearing the cams the cops wear on their shoulders and have it as a direct feed to the news channels and then they could blast it on public tv would it stop then??

I started using my cellphone as a dash-cam (software "autoguard", a windshield mount, and "foldersync" to automagically dump the files off the phone at night)

if someone knows of an unobtrusive/decent battery life body camera, I'd be willing to take the dive and spend the money for one. I can't say I get abused by police on a regular basis, but I've definitely been treated like a child by them.
The last incident really made my blood boil- and it would have been completely avoided had I been driving a newer, cleaner car.
Around here, they single out vehicles that you can tell are worth less than $3000 or so for extra harassment. Being big on DIY, many of my vehicles over the years have looked like hell. Right now I drive a shiney flatbed truck as a commuter vehicle just because it looks like a company vehicle- it doesn't attract attention.

Don't vote for any candidate that supports police unions. Choke off their funding.

we haven't always agreed...but I can back this

not that a star and flag help but have one anyway

I fear sometimes two things

1. People will rally for this cause then peter out due to laziness, fear or the ever important TV....because Kardahian is a more important name than Ferguson

2. Some WILL make a move and the lack of back support will cause their move to make no difference

Two months ago I actually called the police...on the police...no BS

You'll love this btw....

I am driving down a semi-busy road in Central Illinois and I pull up next to a cop on duty in an SUV

I glance over just like "whatever" and he is texting...and...AND on a cellphone to his ear

I'm like...uhm...what?

But then it hit me...ok we aren't moving. It's a red light...whatever....Red light turns green...he moves....still on both devices...and driving...and it occurred to me that if I had the gall to even NOT have my earpiece in while driving I'd get a mighty ticket

So I pulled behind ((had to turn right anyway)) and got his vehicle number. Even did the right thing. I pulled into a space. Put the car in park and I called dispatch to report that their own officer was doing this

You can all guess the response..."Ok we will look into it"
