Alright take from this what you will. This last weekend I was visiting Boston, Mass. and during the trip we made a stop in for dinner at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem and there was a pretty long wait so they allowed us to hang out wherever in the building until we were up. The basement area was called the Library and this was where we went to wait. It was my mom, sister, her bf and myself. The basement was mostly empty minus a few other guests that were also waiting, they were an older biker type couple. Aside from those 2 it was just us 4. Me and my sister's bf were waiting for those 2 to get out of the bathroom so he was standing in the hall area and I walked around and took a few pictures with my phone of what I thought was a really cool door because of the window. Yesterday I got home and was showing my gf the pictures I took on the trip and she noticed something in the window in the door pic from the basement and the instant I saw it sent chills down my spine and unsettled me. First, here's a very crude paint drawing of the layout of this area and where us 2 were. Keep in mind we weren't wearing any costumes, just dressed nice for the dinner.

Now here is a little further away pic of the door..you can see my face mark from just having looked inside to see if I could see anything..It was pitch black minus a small LED light.

Now here is where it gets creepy. Here is a close up pic of the door at the bottom of the stairs and at this point it was just me and my sister's bf in this hall, they were in the bathroom. Just look closely into the reflection on the window and let me know what you think.

I was chilled instantly when she noticed this in the pic..it even appears to be looking directly at me...and my sister's bf remembers standing in the hall and that it was just me and him no one else in that hall while we were waiting especially someone wearing what I'm seeing in that reflection...Just wanted to drop this by here to see if anyone else has been to this hotel or experienced anything similar?

are you talking about the guy in the pic wearing a weird hat and has a beard, to me this looks like a fake guy in costume, and judging by the way the door is designed it looks to be part of the hotels decor. You know kind of like Red lobster puts old fishing gear and traps on the walls. etc...

If its not the apparent fake costume guy, then im not seeing what you are.

Looks much more like someone wearing the garb that was popular in many decades past, maybe centuries.. Like a spirit?
Looks more paranormal to me than fake.

Last week WAS Halloween. Probably a guy in costume who worked there, grabbing a smoke or something.

Shopped.

Look closely at the inner edge of the brass rim. Any photoshopper will tell you that where a layer was dragged over it.

Its a person with a white face with a mardi gras mask gold with black feathers.
Looks to be a female by the mouth but the mask is masculine.

Apparently, the Hawthorne hotel does put on a Mardi Gras Masquerade and Halloween costume balls.

Not saying it's photoshopped but the face sure does look like a painting.

Yep shopped,
You can see where the hand wobbled here

Looks cartoonised to me as well. Whoever did this should join the BTS avatar creations team.

Definitely not shopped. I wish I had any skill outside of the basic cropping I did in that close up pic. It was taken from my iphone 6 there's probably a way to tell that. I emailed that to myself and uploaded it on here, the close up was an edit just for cropping the rest out and zooming in. The mask being goldish and the rest gray was pretty weird to me..not dismissing it couldn't be someone else, just neither of us saw anyone else when we were waiting in that hall area and the stairs where I was standing was the only way out that I knew of back to the lobby.
You can see the little LED that was in that room through the window among other things on it..those windows were directly behind me not sure what was behind them.

I agree with you that it's probably just someone in costume. Makes sense.

But seriously? You see a beard?

its not shopped. you can tell from the first picture without the "ghost" in it that the brass window is a little beat up and obviously old and worn hence why its not perfectly symmetrical.

now, whether or not that's an actual person or an apparition is a different story. i'm not sure what to think but, i love the idea of an old mardi gras ghost hanging out in salem. i've been to salem a bunch a wouldn't honestly be surprised if the majority of places there were haunted considering the sordid history.

looks like it's wearing white face paint with red lipstick. no beard from what i could see. looks like a women. i'd be curious if anyone else has ever had an encounter with something similar in that place. might help narrow down whether or not it was a coincidental person or a spirit.

It doesn't look like a reflection. The person or mannequin is on the other side of the door. Look at the porthole opening inside rim, they are in the other room through the door.

well if you look at the inside rim of the porthole, as you instructed, you can see the "hat" the "person" is wearing crosses the borderline of the inside rim. if it was behind the door you would not see anything on the other side of that borderline unless it was a reflection in the glass.... is the way i understand it. sorry if i misunderstood you or the image itself.

It's a win.dow. Meaning it's at least translucent. Proof of this is that you can see the green LED in the corner.

So what on earth makes you think this is not a mannequin (explaining the white face) wearing a mardi gras mask? Surely the mask would be in storage until the mardi gras party?

I was trying to see into the room through that window by cupping my hands around my face with it up against the window and the only thing I could see other than that LED was blackness. I'm just sharing my experience to see if any others had been there or seen anything similar, not claiming it to be anything..it creeped all of us out..me more so than the others because I couldn't really see a thing through that window.

I think you should send the photo to someone who analyzes that sort of thing 'professionally', because it sure looks like a reflection of 'someone' spooky, and I'm willing to take you at your word that only you and your sister's bf were there...

- I can see where it could 'seem' to be photoshopped because of the warping of the brass that edges the window (the area that cody 599 pointed out in his post), so it would be good if you can get an 'analysis' by someone who would take that into account....

Have you checked into the history of the place? It would be interesting to know if it has a reputation for being haunted (especially if there's a specific 'ghost' that relates to the image in your photo)..

I'd say, being the season, that a transient party-er in classic 1700's masque garb was behind you and to one side is likelier than a crisp, lucky shot of a spirit! Though I know spirits (whatever they are) exist and can show in photos.

So it's either a warm-blooded, well-outfitted historical Halloween celebrator OR a non-blooded, 'contemporarily' garbed ghost of parties past who did a cameo... and I stand by the hard fact that both are possible... just that the first one is likelier.
