Imaginary Friends

Hey everyone. This is my first post here at ATS, so bare with me. I'm not new here however. Anyways, I was just reading a very interesting post on some other website about imaginary friends. Here it is www.totse.com... If you aren't clear with what qualifies as an imaginary friend, it is someone/something that has/had interacted with you but noone else could see. Possibly some people could see but some couldnt however ive never heard of this. Since i never had one of my own i dont know if they can physically interact with you or if they are only able to talk to you. I think that no1 else can hear them too but im not sure. Also some people believe they could be friends from a previous life or something. Anyway, if anyone has a past experience with one or if any1 has a theory on why so many kids have them or what they are, plz post. Thanks

All my kids had them....I kept a close eye to be safe. I had one and it's still with me...I credit it for saving my life many times as a teen. Mine didn't, doesn't interact, but it makes itself known. The only times it has "talked" to me was for safety reasons. I used to hitch hike all over the place as a teen...on three occasions, as I grabbed the door knob to open the door a voice said...do not get in....each time a let go and said. "thanks.....but I'll wait till the next one and moved away from the car quickly....it does a lot of silly things....like turn the washing machine on, turn the TV of and on, lights opens doors etc....I never feel afraid of it or apprehensive...it's been with me a long time...I think of as a guardian

Funny you posted this-- I had just discovered a great old thread on the subject! So I will link you to that one.

Anyway, I believe that some people are able to connect with a spirit guide. I just don't talk about it too often. Its similar or the same as a guardian angel. I do believe some imaginary things, can be unseen things.

Either way, I think it is healthy for kids to have them.

My brother had an imaginary friend.......I think it was demon though cause he is just horrible. A true rebel he is.

hmm....it may actually be saving him because he gets in a lot of bar brawls and doesn't get hurt a lot.

I dont know about it being healthey dude... What if the gohst/spirit is evil?? what if it manipulates the child into doing horrific things????? what if it possesses the child?

Well obviously if the child is behaving as though it is posessed or in communication with demonic forces, there's a problem. But that sounds more like budding serial killer than imaginative child....

Generally, invisible playmates, whether imagined or of a spiritual nature, are "friends." If a kid is playing with evil "friends," professional help would be a wise move.

I've always believed that imaginary friends are ghosts or people from another dimension, kids are more openminded then adults when they're real young.

So I see it as they are more receptable to such things whereas the adults don't see anything.

Haven't there been cases where an imaginary friend told a child some information about something that was going to happen/just happened that the kid couldn't have known about, told their parents about it and found it to of happened?

I don't know, but it makes sense to me Ponderosa. When I was a very small kid, I think there was a spirit or 2 who would play around with me. Can't say for sure.
I remember once seeing a "3 legged buffalo nickle" on an episode of Silver Spoons, then I started thinking about the coin. I found one in my house shortly after...For some reason (as if someone told me to?) I hid it in a glass case that had a small statue in it. A while later the coin disappeared, and no one touched it....weeeeird. These strange object hide-and-seek games happened a few times in my life.

I also would have dreams where things in the forms of angels or fairies (non-threatening to a kid) would say things to me, but never anything too profound. They would just sing or make it snow or something. Once though, one told me Ken Doll did not have a penis, and it was right!
