Was Contagion(2011) predicted-programming for Ebola?

I've watched the movie Contagion a few times and just saw it again earlier today. The events that take place in the film bare an uncanny resemblance to what's taking place right now world-wide concerning Ebola.

This movie starts out right about this time, October-November. They talk about how the virus outbreak couldn't have occurred at a worse time because Thanksgiving is coming up (Which is a real concern with Ebola right now). In the movie a woman becomes infected with a virus that attacks the nervous system and causes death from fever; the mortality rate is extremely high(much like Ebola). It spreads slowly at first and then explodes, wiping out a large chunk of the earth's population. The CDC/WHO work to make a vaccine, because there isn't an established and proven vaccine yet (like Ebola). There is rioting, food rationing, etc. Society breaks down, marshal law is proclaimed. CDC/WHO eventually makes a vaccine and saves the day, while the conspiracy theorist who was speaking out against the CDC and making his own "cure" is actually found to be a con-artist who was ripping people off. Go figure.

It's basically the exact kind of movie the Government and all the pharmaceutical companies want you to see and believe. This movie really resembles the current situation with Ebola. The events in the movie occur around the same time, involve a similar virus, and it makes me wonder if the movie was programming us for this event.

Will Ebola be the disease that curbs our population, or will it lead to something worse? Or is it all over-analyzed fear mongering that's simply a distraction from all the other terrible things currently happening (like events in the middle-east etc.)

Your guess is as good as mine, and your input is welcomed. As for my input, all I can do is suggest the usual prepper advice if this ebola situation grows out of control: stock up on food and water, medicine, supplies etc. Keep contact with others to a minimum and stay clean and healthy. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Yes, all of the art, music and literature we consume is a grand allegory for something else entirely. Only those with the keys of understanding will get it. ;p

The reason it resembles what is going on now is because it was made with public health consultants providing input into what would likely happen, its unremarkable that people who spend their lives studying and working in this area were able to predict what might happen given certain circumstances. Probably the strongest link you could draw is the process of developing and distributing vaccines but again this isn't an issue that hasn't been thought and discussed in huge detail. There is tons of research and debate out there that accurately details the difficulties and barriers that would be faced (now currently being faced) in the search for a cure... just most of this takes place in boring academic journals and not slightly less boring Hollywood entertainment.
The movie was based off an airborne virus (Influenza) which spreads rapidly, ebola is simply not on the same level.
The media has done a terrible job at accurately reporting what is happening.

It wasn't predicted programming, but it was incredibly accurate as to how Government agencies would deal with a health crisis, and how people would react to it.

Great movie, highly recommended.

The only thing that it really didn't take into account was the fact that the American health care system would be massively overwhelmed very, very quickly with a pandemic in even ONE city, let alone all of them at once.

If you don't believe society would break down quickly with such an event, just remember that in the three days it took for the Federal Government to get to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, there were already roaming bands of mercenaries and feral dogs in packs in the streets.
